QATAR ACTION AWAITED

Gulf envoys 'may not return to Doha soon'

Riyadh, April 19, 2014

Saudi, the UAE and Bahraini ambassadors will not return to Doha until Qatar demonstrates its good intentions, Saudi diplomatic sources said yesterday (April 18).

Qatar has yet to take concrete measures to implement its commitments following the GCC foreign ministers' meeting, which convened in Riyadh on Thursday, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The sources told London-based Al Arab newspaper that Qatar "will commit to its Amir's pledge and expel Muslim Brotherhood figures from Doha in addition to denying them any support abroad".

Doha has also pledged to stop its direct and indirect support of instigative networks, whether based in Qatar or abroad.

Sources said that the GCC leaders would likely wait for two months to assess Qatar's co-operation.

The sources also feared that Doha would not keep its pledges due to the influential presence of the Muslim Brotherhood in Qatar. – TradeArabia News Service
