Bahrain hotels urge rethink on alcohol ban

Manama, July 13, 2014

Investors and hotel owners have urged Bahrain's leadership to reconsider a decision to ban alcohol, nightclubs and bars in three-star hotels.

The move will lead to detrimental social and economic repercussions, they said in a statement.

They stressed the importance of partnership between the private sector and government in promoting tourism and said only violators should be held responsible for the unhealthy practices cited in the Culture Ministry's statement announcing the ban, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Investors and hotel owners have already taken measures to resume activities after Ramadan as the tourism directorate had received BD2,000 ($5,274.9) for each licence renewal, said the statement.

Meanwhile, 20 MPs have backed the ministry's decision, calling for its immediate implementation. - TradeArabia News Service
