Saudi municipal election campaign begins

Campaigning for the historic December 12 municipal elections in Saudi Arabia begins today (November 29).
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has taken many steps to ensure free, effective and convenient campaigning, Hamad Al-Omar, executive committee member and media head for the elections, was quoted as saying by an Arab News report.
The election website, intekhab.gov.sa, highlights all details of the electoral process.
“The elected representatives will be expected to improve municipal services and participate in the development of neighborhoods, villages and cities,” he said.
Women are taking part in the elections, as voters and candidates, for the first time in the history of the kingdom.
