Schneider Electric partners with DSO on e-mobility solutions

DUBAI, April 19, 2023

Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, is setting up an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at its regional headquarters located in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), an integrated free zone technology park and member of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ).

This comes as part of its efforts to encourage the adoption of e-mobility solutions among electric vehicle users as well as its employees to adopt green mobility solutions, said a statement from the company.

Post installation of the EV charging station, Schneider Electric’s DSO facility is expected to provide more than 300,000 km of driving distance every year to all EV owners, saving an estimated 40,000kg of carbon dioxide in car-direct-emissions, it stated.

On the new EV station, Ashraf Abdelkhalek, Gulf Sustainability Leader at Schneider Electric, said: "We anticipate more Schneider Electric employees transitioning to electric vehicles to benefit from our EV charging infrastructure within DSO. This is in line with our plans to encourage adoption of e-mobility solutions."

"Demand for electric vehicles in the UAE market has steadily increased over the past few years and is projected to witness a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30% until 2028," he said, citing the global electric mobility readiness index published in 2022.

"This initiative is also aligned with our global sustainability goals to reach carbon neutrality by 2025 and net zero carbon dioxide emissions across our value chain by 2050," stated Abdelkhalek.

"Our ambition is to have all our facilities across the UAE and Qatar equipped with EV chargers. Along with enabling EV charging infrastructure within our premises, we are working to create policies that will encourage more of our employees to adopt green mobility solutions," he added.

Nawaf Al Khater, Senior Director Planning & Design at DIEZ, said: "In the Middle East, the UAE is leading sustainability in the transportation sector, with the aim to become carbon neutral by 2050, and currently ranks eighth globally in terms of readiness for electric mobility."

"DSO is committed to supporting the expansion of electric vehicle usage within its community and throughout the wider Dubai and UAE," he noted.

"We are delighted to welcome Schneider Electric to our range of partners in this effort, to collectively contribute to the realization of the UAE’s goal for Net Zero by 2050," he stated.

Schneider Electric joins DSO’s existing partners in the e-mobility space, including the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, who work together on a series of pilot projects and initiatives aimed at running green and sustainable transit that support the emirate's exploration of smart mobility solutions, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
