Haramain High-Speed rail transports over 1m travellers in Ramadan
RIYADH, April 13, 2024
The Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has announced that it has achieved a remarkable milestone by transporting more than 1 million passengers via the Haramain High-Speed Railway, which connects Makkah and Madinah.
This marks a 22% increase compared to last year's Ramadan season, reported SPA.
Throughout Ramadan, SAR facilitated the transportation of these travelers through 2,845 trips, representing a 12% rise from the previous year.
The rail service was dedicated to the visitors of the two mosques, ensuring their ease and convenience during their visit and rituals.
SAR said that the increase in the capacity of the Haramain High-Speed Railway was one of the key elements of the operational plan for the season, stated the report.
The plan involved expanding the number of trips and available seats, reflecting SAR's commitment to enhancing the travel experience for visitors and providing them with a wider range of transportation options at convenient times.
The implementation of the Ramadan operational plan for the Haramain railway followed an approved mechanism, in coordination with the Saudi-Spanish consortium operating the high-speed train and relevant government entities, said the SPA report.
The plan was executed under the direct supervision of Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and SAR Chairman of the Board of Directors Engineer Saleh Al Jasser.
It encompassed a comprehensive action plan aimed at facilitating the travel of visitors between Makkah and Madinah, guaranteeing their safety and comfort throughout the journey, it added.
