SwitchDin, Australia’s leading provider of virtual power plant (VPP) and microgrid software for utilities, is taking its distributed energy (DER) management technology to a broader, international audience at the World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi.

 

SwitchDin, a Startup Energy Transition (#SET100) member, features at the congress (from September 9-12) as a key guest of the German Energy Agency (dena). 

 

SwitchDin’s technology consists of its cloud-based DER management platform - Stormcloud - and Droplet hardware.

 

Compatible with a wide range of popular equipment brands, Droplets provide advanced, autonomous energy management functionality for sites as well as enabling orchestration for heterogeneous fleets of DERs.

 

Droplet software can also be deployed directly into third-party equipment.

 

“SwitchDin is set to accelerate the value that integration and orchestration of DER can bring to the electricity sector and consumers,” said SwitchDin CEO Dr Andrew Mears.

 

“We provide our platform for utilities but also can embed our software into battery and smart meter products.

Dr Mears make a presentation about SwitchDin on the second day of the conference (10 September) at the SET ‘Smart Devices and Storage’ pitch session from 14:30 to 15:45.

 

SwitchDin will also be exhibiting and available for face-to-face meetings at stand H8-350-71 on the exhibition area floor.

 

As a consequence of the high penetration of solar and cost of grid electricity, Australia is the DER testbed for the rest of the world, giving rise to innovative electricity service models driving modernisation of the electricity grid, said a statement.

 

SwitchDin is on the frontlines of Australia’s energy transition, working with key players across the sector on cutting-edge projects around the country.

 

Many of these have been designed to find solutions to pressing issues in challenging ‘fringe of grid’ environments, leveraging small-scale energy assets to manage network demand while allowing more solar PV on the grid.

 

SwitchDin also works with electricity retailers and battery and inverter manufacturers to allow their customers to participate in energy markets and offer grid services through VPPs.

 

The company’s work in Australia has implications for the rest of the world, as distributed energy - especially solar PV - becomes more common globally, it said.

 

In April this year, SwitchDin was recognised as one of the top 100 global energy startups (#SET100) and one of fewer than 20 in the ‘Intelligent Grids, Platforms & Cyber Security’ category by dena in the World Energy Council’s Startup Energy Transition program.
