LEWAS celebrates energy sector trailblazers

The Leadership Excellence for Women Awards and Symposium (LEWAS) announced the winners of the LEWAS Awards 2021 edition at a gala event in Bahrain.
Sponsored by Aramco, the event celebrated the Middle East’s energy industry pioneers, promoting the accomplishments made by energy professionals and companies in the region.
The winners were carefully selected for their excellence on and off the field.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Oil and Patron of LEWAS, and other VIPs and Middle East notables welcomed back the event in-person.
The night was headlined by Adnoc Group taking home the Corporate Excellence Award.
Now in its 7th edition, the LEWAS Awards has progressively seen entries from diverse roles within the energy spectrum.
And for the first time the awards were opened to individuals and organisations from non-technical backgrounds including communications, consulting, finance and more.

The winners and runners-up included:
• The winners of the Academic Achievement for Student Award were Lina Alzayer from University of Bahrain; and Reem Aseeri, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University. The runners-up were Rozan Wali, KAUST; and Yara Alghamdi, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University.
• The Academic Achievement for University Professor Award went to Dr Hayat Abdulla Yusuf, Assistant professor and PCAP Program Coordinator, University of Bahrain. The runners-up were Dr Sumaya Abbas, Chairperson of Natural Resources and Environment Department, Arabian Gulf University; and Dr Awatif Hendi, Professor at King Abdullah Institute for Nanotechnology, King Saud University.
• The Rising Star Award was awarded to Zainab Alali, Reservoir Engineer at Aramco. The runners-up were Najla Al Shamsi, Engineer - High Voltage Switchgear, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa); and Maha Fakhroo, Associate - Senior Process Engineer, Bapco.
• The Leading with Excellence Award was won by Dr Amani Musharah, Lab supervisor, Aramco. The runners-up in this category were Salma Alsinan, Geophysicist, Aramco; Roqaya Al-Wazzan, Senior Process Engineer, Kuwait Oil Company; and Dalal Al-Alaimi, Senior Business Planner, KUFPEC.
• The winners of the Woman of Achievement Award were Basma El Zein, Director General, Governance and Sustainability Center, University of Business and Technology; and Salma Al Hajeri, Vice-President - Non-Operated Assets (MENA & Russia), Mubadala Petroleum. The runners-up included Mai Al Eisa, Manager - Manufacturing Vietnam, Kuwait Petroleum International; and Nadia Al-Zeabot, Senior Planner (Innovation & Technology), Kuwait Oil Company.
• The Corporate Excellence (Male Champion) Award went to Dawood Nassif, former CEO, Bapco; and Rashed Jouda Al-Fadhili, Team Leader, Process Engineering Refinery, Kuwait National Petroleum Company. The runners-up in this category were Alex Malouf, Corporate Communications Director MEA, Schneider Electric; and Abdulkarim Alghamdi, Vice-President of Project Management, Aramco.
And the Corporate Excellence Recognition Award was given to the Adnoc Group, with the runner-up being Kuwait Petroleum International & KUFPEC. –Tradearabia News Service
