, December 7, 2022

During the eighth Mediterranean Dialogues (MED) forum, Oil and Environment Minister, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina stressed that Bahrain is continuing to devise and implement ambitious development plans and initiatives in order to achieve its environmental and climatic obligations.

These include reducing emissions by 30 per cent by 2035, increasing the area of mangrove trees four times compared to the current area, doubling the size of green spaces, using renewable energy and reaching Net-zero by 2060, he said.

The minister highlighted the importance of serious dialogue among various countries to discuss issues related to the security and stability of the global economy, in order to ensure continuous provision of energy to all countries at competitive prices, and to support investment in urban development, in addition to supporting scientific research and the use of modern technologies to shift to renewable energy and reach net zero.

The forum was opened by the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, in the presence of the presidents of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, and Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

Launched in 2015, MED is a global hub for high–level dialogues on the broader Mediterranean issues, engaging prominent leaders of Mediterranean governments, business, civil society, media and academia.

Rome MED focuses on four main themes, namely Shared Prosperity, Shared Security, Migration, and Civil Society and Culture.
