Atlas Copco extends its energy storage systems range

DUBAI, August 1, 2024

Atlas Copco is expanding its Energy Storage Systems (ESS) canopy range with the launch of the new ZBP 120-120 and ZBP 150-150 models.

The innovative system, which delivers the highest power with capacity of up to 150kWh in a portable model, is built on Atlas Copco’s proven lithium-ion battery technology so operators in noise-sensitive environments such as construction sites and events, can benefit from clean, quiet energy to reduce their emissions.

“Reducing emissions on site has become increasingly important to our customers and with the introduction of our new ESS it is now easier than ever before for operators to improve their sustainability credentials,” says Tobias Schuster, Divisional Product Marketing Manager at Atlas Copco Power and Flow. “The ZBP 120-120 and ZBP 150-150 fit the gap between our canopy range of ZBP and the larger container-based ZBC models and we now have a very comprehensive portfolio of energy storage solutions on the market. With seven models in the range, covering power capacities from 2kWh to 575kWh, there really is an option for all operators to realise the advantages of quiet and low emissions power.”

High standards
The new ESS is built to the same high standards as the existing ZBP range and offers the same advantages, specifically enabling end users to cut dioxide emissions during operations, and achieve significant fuel, energy and lifecycle savings. However, users now have more flexibility and versatility over their power options.

Energy storage systems are designed to provide reliable, and quiet energy for applications on construction sites, events, telecom, and especially metropolitan sites. The ZBP 120-120 and the ZBP 150-150 models are ideal for use where demanding flow of electrical power energy is required, as the systems efficiently cover low loads. For example, the systems can appropriately size cranes and other electric motors, and successfully manage peaks in energy demand for events and for electric vehicle (EV) recharging stations.

Operators can quickly and easily set up the ESS in a variety of ways: it can be used as a sole source of power when operating in ‘island mode’, or in a hybrid setting in conjunction with alternative power sources such as mains, generators or renewable energy. For users wanting more power capacity, the ESS can also be connected easily in series to deliver double the power capacity.

ZBP 120-120 has a unique 400A of passthrough capability, which means that users can access even higher power levels. In hybrid mode it has the highest passthrough available on the market now, and can deliver 436kVA output, creating additional versatility for users.

Fuel savings
Additionally, using the system as part of a hybrid solution means users can extend the life of their generators and make fuel savings of up to 90%.

Rental companies can benefit from hybrid mode option. By combining ESS with traditional fuel-based generators, the lifetime of the generator can be extended, service intervals increased, and total cost of ownership reduced.

The state-of-the-art systems integrate reliable lithium-ion batteries with advanced thermal management technology to operate reliably in temperatures from -20°C to +50°C and they are especially designed to be used outside and moved around site. The ESS has an ingress protection rating of IP55 to withstand the elements and is available with a C4M coating for corrosion resistance, as well as a galvanised frame for multi drop applications. The integrated lifting structure on the ZBP 120-120, with sling guides and forklift slots allows easy transportation.

The systems are fast to set up in less than a minute thanks to plug and play quick connection ports, and users can easily switch between applications on their site. Furthermore, the systems can be charged quickly, in less than an hour, to keep operations running smoothly. Also, remote two-way connection to the machines ensures fast and easy monitoring and finetuning of the application to reach highest efficiencies in every application.

All ESS solutions come with Atlas Copco’s proprietary energy management system, the ECO Controller, which monitors and controls the ESS to ensure best performance. The ECO integrates performance data to optimise energy generation, distribution and consumption, seamlessly communicating with all components in the installation including inverters, batteries, solar charge controllers, energy meters as well as third party equipment such as generators or loads.

User friendly
The ECO system is customisable, providing a user-friendly experience through a simple and intuitive interface, as well as providing remote control, so users can access the data from off-site. Operators can then take any immediate corrective action as necessary, thereby increasing the lifetime of components and generators while reducing long term costs.

Furthermore, the energy storage systems from Atlas Copco are getting a fresh new appearance, now featuring in white color. The new ZBP 120-120 and ZBP 150-150 models will be the first models to showcase this renewed look, making it easier for users to identify all battery-based ESS solutions that optimise energy consumption and distribution in your temporary power solutions.

“Our ESS provide a reliable source of power to keep operations running efficiently and users can evolve from operating the smallest ESS systems to larger ones, with the same user-friendly experience across the whole range,” concludes Tobias.--TradeArabia News Service
