Infinity Power, the largest African pure play renewable energy provider, has announced that it has joined hands with Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy powerhouse, to sign a major power purchase agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) that will see the duo deliver a long-term supply of renewable energy generated by a landmark 200MW onshore wind project, located in Ras Ghareb, Gulf of Suez region. 

 

On completion, the wind farm is estimated to have a production capacity of 810,000MWh per annum. 

 

Consequentially, it is predicted to cut 403,672 tonnes of CO2eq emissions per year, helping to support Egypt’s sustainability ambitions. 

 

The signing of the Ras Ghareb wind farm deal expands Infinity Power’s presence in Egypt’s renewable energy sector, alongside its existing 252MW West Bakr wind farm, said the company in a statement.

 

This venture will serve as the latest in a series of developments to expand Infinity Power’s portfolio. As the largest African renewable energy company, Infinity Power is targeting 10GW of operational renewable energy by 2030, it stated. 

 

This target will have the capability to provide electricity to 12 million homes across the African continent by the end of this decade and would contribute a further reduction of approximately 15 to 20 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, it added.

 

The agreements were signed by Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, Engineer Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, Salah Ezzat, Acting Chairman of EETC and Dr Mohamed El-Khayat, CEO of NREA in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly; Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr Mahmoud Mustafa Kamal Esmat; UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar Dr Sultan Al Jaber; Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy Sabah Mashali as well as top Infinity Power officials including Chairman Mohamed Ismail Mansour; Director of Government Affairs Hisham El Gamal; Director of North Africa Mokhtar AbulAta and Head of Legal Nourhan Ghareeb. 

 

On the key pact, Mansour said: "We are excited to announce the construction of the Ras Ghareb wind farm, a project that symbolizes Infinity Power's steadfast commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions."

This venture will serve as the latest in a series of developments to expand Infinity Power’s portfolio, he stated.

 

As the largest renewable energy company in Africa, Infinity Power is targeting 10GW of operational renewable energy by 2030, which will equate to $5 billion investment.
