Lulu says its Ahmedabad mall will be the biggest in India

AHMEDABAD, INDIA, January 17, 2024

UAE-based Lulu Group is planning to build a shopping mall in Ahmedabad in India's Gujarat state that will be the biggest in the country, a report said.

The construction for the shopping mall, to be built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore ($481 million), will start in 2024 itself, said Yusuff Ali MA, Chairman and Managing Director of Lulu Group International, talking to ANI on the sidelines of the recent Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

A miniature of the mall was put up for display at the UAE stall in Vibrant Gujarat.

"This is the great vision of the Prime Minister. He started Vibrant Gujarat 20 years ago. This is a big international event. People are coming here to invest generously and NRIs are coming too. We are going to construct India's largest shopping mall in Ahmedabad...We will begin it this year itself," said Yusuff Ali.

The group is also buliding large shopping malls in Hyderabad and Chennai. The Hyderabad mall will open at the end of this month.

Currently, the LuLu Group has malls in six Indian cities, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad being the latest.

Lulu Group, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, UAE, operates over 250 hypermarkets and supermarkets, and is popular with shoppers across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Egypt, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

It is one of the largest retail chains in Asia and is the biggest in the Middle East. The Lulu Group employs more than 65,000-plus strong workforce from 42 different nations.
