Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha marks Earth Hour
DOHA, March 27, 2017
Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha celebrated Earth Hour with 60 minutes of darkness and a special celebration of “Live Green” at the hotel’s lobby level, on March 25th with a big crowd of employees and guests.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, the Gold Green Globe certified hotel turned off all unnecessary lights and lit candles to conserve energy as a part of the annual global initiative to reduce greenhouse emissions across the planet.
For that evening, the ground floors at Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha featured a “Live Green” area with pillars made from recycled wood and other materials, as a symbol of sustainability. Hotel employees gathered to light candles and commemorated this special evening to honour the environment.
As the property turned off its lights from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm, the hotel invited guests to stand for sustainability with general manager Ghada Sadek and other members of management, and enjoy complimentary snacks and beverages, as well as famous Mövenpick ice cream. The hotel also announced a week-long recycling initiative to encourage all employees to recycle at homes as well, to truly embody the aspect of living green.
“It is our continued commitment to maintain an effective environmental management policy for the preservation of a healthy environment for future generations,” said Sadek. “By turning off non-essential lights, evoking candle power and involving both staff and guests for one hour in the lobby, we have made our small contribution as part of the larger efforts throughout the world, showing our concern and support in spreading awareness about sustainability.”
One of the key goals of the hotel is to promote and create awareness around sustainability and green-friendly living, while creating a culture and promoting an attitude towards recycling and energy conservation throughout the hotel’s basic daily operations. - TradeArabia News Service
