Jordan airport handles nearly 4m passengers in H1

AMMAN, August 12, 2018

Over the course of the first six months of 2018, Jordan's Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) registered a 7.6 per cent year-on-year increase in passenger numbers, welcoming close to 4 million travellers.

From the start of the year until the end of June, QAIA welcomed 3,884,518 passengers as well as witnessed 36,301 aircraft movements (ACM) and handled 52,120 tons of cargo - amounting to 1.1 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively - compared to the same period in 2017.

Top destinations contributing to this notable growth were Alexandria, Antalya, Baghdad, Cairo, Doha, Istanbul, Kuwait, Paphos and Rome.

As for June 2018 monthly figures - which were the highest in QAIA history - the airport recorded a total of 736,192 passengers as opposed to 628,787 passengers in June 2017, indicating a significant rise of 17.1 per cent. For the same period, cargo activity figures decreased by 21.1 per cent to hit 8,412, whereas ACM figures went up 8.9 per cent to reach 7,127.

“We are very pleased with the success of the first six months of 2018, which has proved once again that our airport is fully equipped to handle increasing passenger numbers,” said Airport International Group CEO, Kjeld Binger. “With the airport’s new routes as well as the Hajj season and upcoming holidays, we remain optimistic about maintaining a consistent growth during the second half of the year.” -  TradeArabia News Service
