Bahrain's new terminal to have special PRM facilities

MANAMA, December 26, 2019

Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) new Passenger Terminal Building will deliver a more comfortable and convenient travel experience for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), said the Bahrain Airport Company.

The new terminal will feature dedicated PRM facilities and services to ensure greater accessibility and comfort, thus supporting BAC’s objective of operating a friendly and efficient airport, it stated.

Travellers at the new terminal can avail of PRM-friendly check-in counters and information desks, dedicated e-Gates in the Arrivals and Departures areas besides private toilets, and a dedicated lower counter at immigration control.

PRM travellers would also be able to easily collect their luggage at the baggage reclaim carousels, which have dedicated access spots, it added.

BAC chief executive officer Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah said: "BIA caters to diverse passengers’ needs and expectations, and we consider it our responsibility to ensure that all of them enjoy a hassle-free travel experience and the same high levels of service."

"We understand that travelling can sometimes be challenging for passengers with reduced mobility and have carefully considered their needs in the design of the new terminal. With a wider range of dedicated facilities and services, we are confident that PRM travellers will have a far more comfortable journey," he noted.

Al Binfalah said to ensure travellers enjoy a seamless travel experience from the moment that they arrive, there are dedicated curbside parking spaces at the entrance of the Arrivals Area and spaces per level in the Multi-storey car park.

PRM parking spaces are also available at the curbside entrance of the Departures Area, he added.

According to BAC, the new Passenger Terminal Building, which will be four times bigger than the existing facility, will still maintain the same high levels of efficiency.

"Departing passengers remain on one level from the moment they arrive until they reach their aircraft gate, making the journey easier for PRM travellers. Similarly, arriving passengers will remain on one level until they clear customs and immigration," explained Al Binfalah.

"The current terminal also caters to the requirements of PRM travellers. There are dedicated parking spaces near the entrance gate, paved roads and slopes for smoother transport, and six reserved parking spaces in the Arrival Area’s pick-up and exit lane. There are also special check-in counters, a dedicated PRM lane and fast-track counter, wheelchairs, private toilets, and elevators for added convenience," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
