Emirates to restore full salaries of staff: report
DUBAI, September 7, 2020
Dubai-based Emirates airline is expected to restore full salaries of its employees from October, a Gulf News report said quoting a spokesperson for the airline.
With Covid-19 curbs easing in many countries, Emirates has been resuming flights to global destinations. About 90 cities are now covered by the airline.
The salary move by the airline indicates that the UAE’s airlines may be slowly recovering from the industry’s worst slowdown, said the report.
At least two Emirates employees confirmed that on September 3 they received an HR letter informing them about restoration of pre-Covid pay, it said.
The letter also stated that allowances of staff and managers in certain categories would see some reductions, according to the employees.
Emirates’ move comes days after media reports said that the airline had received $2 billion from Dubai since March.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways has extended the period of reduced pay for its staff until the end of the year, a spokeswoman for the carrier said.
Employees will have their salaries reduced by 10% from September until the end of December, she said, compared to an earlier cut of between 25% and 50% which ended last month, Gulf News said.
