Airlines veteran Samer Majali named RJ’s President/CEO
AMMAN, April 2, 2021
The Royal Jordanian Board of Directors has elected Samer Majali as Vice Chairman and designated him to assume the role of RJ President/CEO as of March 30.
Board Chairman Said Darwazah said the board elected Majali, who was a member of the RJ family and an expert in the civil aviation and the air transport industry.
This decision, he said, reflects that board’s keenness to continue the company's strategy that targets development and comprehensive progress amid the tough times faced by the global air transportation due to the spread of Coronavirus. He underlined the considerable impact of Covid-19 on the global air transport industry. RJ was not spared; it has been negatively affected by the outbreak of this disease, considering the closure of international airports and the strict restrictions imposed on travel in Jordan and globally.
Majali brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, and he is widely credited for the growth of various companies he was involved with. His latest tenure was founding Plane Vision, a corporate strategy and organization advisory in Bahrain. Between 2013 and 2019, he was the CEO of SaudiGulf Airlines. From 2009, he was the CEO of Gulf Air for a period of three years.
Majali was an active member of various international organisations in the aviation industry and beyond; he was an ex-member of the IATA Board of Governors and was then elected to become the Chairman of the IATA Board of Governors (2008-2009). He is also an ex-member of the Board of Central Bank of Jordan (2011-2020).
He began working at Royal Jordanian in 1979, with an illustrious career that took him to top executive positions across flight operations, corporate planning, information technology, passenger services, engineering and maintenance, until he occupied the position of President/CEO between 2001 and 2009.
Majali holds an M Sc Degree in Air Transport Management from Cranfield Institute of Technology, UK, and B Sc Degree in Aeronautical Engineering and Design from Loughborough University of Technology, UK. – TradeArabia News Service
