Germany: five unmissable summer attractions for GCC travellers
DUBAI, July 30, 2024
German National Tourist Office (GNTO) has invited GCC travellers to experience five must-see attractions this summer in Germany – home to diverse landscapes and vibrant culture.
With direct flights from several cities across GCC, accessing Germany's attractions has never been so easier. Efficient air travel options ensure that travellers can reach popular destinations such as Berlin, Duesseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich.
Once in Germany, an extensive network of trains, buses, and highways makes exploring the country both convenient and enjoyable, GNTO said.
Here’s a list of attractions GNTO is recommending travellers visit:
Black Forest National Park: Nature’s Untamed Beauty
The 10,000-hectare nature reserve in Baden-Württemberg boasts lush green forests and spectacular views from mountains over 1,000 metres high. Adventurers can indulge in hiking, biking, or rafting while exploring an undisturbed natural habitat home to the peregrine falcon and the pygmy owl. With areas left untouched by human intervention for over 100 years, the park offers a truly authentic and immersive natural experience.
UNESCO Elbe Riverside Biosphere Reserve
The reserve is a haven for those intrigued by unique ecosystems. Stretching from Saxony-Anhalt to Schleswig-Holstein, this reserve features pristine wetlands, white sandy beaches, and wooded hills.
Visitors can explore this diverse landscape through boat trips, canoe adventures, and the 840-km Elbe Cycle Route, which winds through the scenic river valley. This reserve provides a habitat for cranes, wild geese, white-tailed eagles, and beavers, making it a perfect spot for nature enthusiasts.
Outletcity Metzingen: A Shopper's Paradise
Fashion enthusiasts will find their paradise at Outletcity Metzingen, the birthplace of Hugo Boss, which now also features the new Moxy Hotel, adding a touch of metropolitan flair for extended stays.
Renowned for offering international brands at discounted prices, Outletcity Metzingen attracts over 4 million visitors annually. It continues to set trends with its innovative approach, including a fully digitalised shopping experience.
Schloss Lieser: Stepping into a Fairytale
For those seeking a blend of luxury and history, Schloss Lieser in the Moselle region offers a stay in a beautifully restored castle. Guests can enjoy spectacular views of the Moselle River and surrounding vineyards, as well as facilities such as a library and a spa and wellness area.
The castle's restaurant provides an authentic gastronomic journey, making it a perfect retreat for relaxation and indulgence.
Northern Germany Island-Hopping: Discover Unique Charms
Northern Germany offers an island-hopping experience featuring destinations such as Amrum, Föhr, Pellworm, North Beach, and Sylt. Each island has its own distinct charm and attractions.
Amrum is known for its 15-kilometre-long and 1.5-kilometre-wide Kniepsand beach, making it ideal for families. Visitors can enjoy bike tours, explore the bird sanctuary Amrum-Odde, or visit historical sites like the 1875-built Amrum lighthouse and the 1770-built Old Mill in Nebel.
Referred to as the Frisian Caribbean, Föhr offers over 200 km of bike paths and unique attractions like the Planet Trail and Hinrichsen's family farm. Pellworm features tranquil mudflats and quiet walks in the Wadden Sea, perfect for those seeking relaxation.
The island boasts an 8-metre-high dike with a circular bike path and the famous Pellworms Lighthouse with its 37-metre-high viewing platform.
North Beach, known as the "green heart of the Wadden Sea," offers leisure activities like carriage rides through the Wadden Sea to Hallig Südfall, fishing at Holmer Siel, and brainteasers at the Dr. Lux Escape Room.
Sylt, famous for its Megamarsch challenge, allows visitors to explore the entire island within 24 hours. Highlights include the Braderup Heath nature reserve, the Kampen Noble Village, the Rantum Basin, and the southern end's Hörnum with the Budersand Hotel and Kai 3 restaurant.
