ITB Asia opens; showcase growing tourism sector

SINGAPORE, 23 days ago

The 17th edition of ITB Asia kicked off today in Singapore, bringing together more than 85 tourism organizations and convention bureaus from around the world. Industry leaders have pointed to the exhibition floor as a reflection of growing confidence in the travel sector and rising global demand for tourism, writes Kim Thomson of TTN from Singapore.

This year's event is the most expansive to date, featuring a 75% increase in African exhibitors and a 25% rise in participation from Europe. With 160 expert speakers and 100 sessions spread across three conference tracks, attendees will gain crucial insights on the theme: “Innovating for Tomorrow: Strengthening Future Resilience in Travel and Tourism.”

Held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Marina Bay Sands, ITB Asia is co-located with MICE Show Asia and Travel Tech Asia. Over the next three days, travel professionals can expect a packed programme, showcasing the largest and most diverse range of exhibitors in the event’s history.

The exhibition spans three massive halls, covering sectors such as destinations, attractions, airlines, hotels, cruises, and the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. Travel Tech Asia, hosted in a dedicated hall, will feature the latest travel technology suppliers and startups presenting their cutting-edge innovations.

The official opening was graced by Alvin Tan, Singapore's Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry; Melissa Ow, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board; Dr Mario Tobias, CEO, Messe Berlin; and David Ruetz, Senior Vice President, Messe Berlin, who led the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony
amidst the vibrant beats of a traditional lion dance.

Dr Tobias said: “ITB Asia has grown beyond just a marketplace; it’s now a global hub for travel innovation and industry development. ITB Asia 2024 offers a comprehensive platform, addressing every facet of the travel trade, ensuring attendees leave with actionable insights to enhance their business. The increased presence on the exhibition floor mirrors the industry's confidence and the rising demand for travel.”

Attendees will benefit from an inspiring Opening Keynote organised in partnership with The Ascott Limited, the Official Partner Hotel. This will set the tone for three days of high-level networking, with the Official Evening Gathering providing a unique opportunity to connect with industry leaders,
decision-makers, and experts from across the global travel trade ecosystem.

Key tourism authorities such as the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman, Visit Norway, Tourism Armenia, Visit Jordan, and India’s Ministry of Tourism are among the notable participants. Asia and Oceania dominate the exhibitor presence, making up 56%, with Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East comprising the remaining 44%.

Exhibitors span the entire tourism supply chain, from tourism promotion boards (28%) to tour operators and attractions (34%), accommodation providers (27%), and transportation and travel tech companies (11%). - TradeArabia News Service
