Marriott International hotels in the UAE raised over AED 600,000 ($16,337) in October to support breast cancer awareness. The funds will aid Al Jalila Foundation’s breast cancer research and support efforts.
More than 60 Marriott properties joined the #PINKtober campaign, led by the Marriott Business Council UAE. The initiative included charity walks across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and the Northern Emirates, with over 1,275 employees participating.
In Abu Dhabi, employees walked 4 km from The Ritz-Carlton to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
In Dubai, they covered an 8.3 km route on Palm Jumeirah, while in the Northern Emirates, the walk stretched 3.5 km from Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa to Ajman Saray, a Luxury Collection Resort.
Throughout October, more than 90 Marriott restaurants across the UAE hosted pink-themed events such as brunches, ladies’ nights, and wellness activities, with a portion of proceeds supporting Al Jalila Foundation.
These events also offered wellness workshops and health consultations to educate the public on breast cancer.
Pam Wilby, Chair of Marriott Business Council UAE and Multi-Property General Manager of Grosvenor House, Dubai, and Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa, noted the campaign’s impact, saying, “Our support towards Al Jalila Foundation’s breast cancer campaign has become a cornerstone of our efforts in the UAE, uniting people from all backgrounds to educate and fundraise for breast cancer patient treatment and research.”
“We are deeply grateful for the enthusiastic participation from our associates and local community, and the opportunity to make a difference,” Wilby said.
The #PINKtober campaign and Marriott’s support for Al Jalila Foundation align with Marriott’s Serve 360: “Doing Good in Every Direction” platform, which guides the company’s commitment to making a positive and sustainable impact in the communities where it operates.
Dr Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, praised Marriott’s dedication, saying, “Al Jalila Foundation is grateful for Marriott’s unwavering commitment to our annual #PINKtober fundraising campaign. The participation from so many outlets across Marriott hotel properties each year is truly inspiring, as these fundraisers contribute significantly to our ongoing efforts to advance breast cancer awareness, treatment, and research,” Dr Al Zarooni said.
“We are very proud of our partnership, now in its tenth year, with Marriott. Together, we are making a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their families.” - TradeArabia News Service
