Inclusivity takes centre stage at Abu Dhabi Air Expo
ABU DHABI, November 21, 2024
Abu Dhabi Air Expo that is underway at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (November 19-21) is shining a spotlight on inclusivity, especially gender diversity and limited mobility, in the aerospace industry with active participation from the ‘Middle East Chapter of Women in Aviation’.
A highlight was a talk by Imen Sfaxi, who is fighting the odds to become a pilot and an eVTOL instructor, despite the injuries she sustained while rescuing and evacuating people from a fire accident in the Khalidiya area of Abu Dhabi in 2022.
In a talk titled, ‘From Wheelchair to Air,’ Sfaxi spoke about her ambitious project, which aims to empower women and people with limited mobility through advancements in air mobility technologies.
Sfaxi said: "My journey has shown me that resilience can defy the odds. As I pursue my dream of becoming the first woman pilot of a drone with reduced mobility, I am dedicated to raising awareness in the aviation ecosystem about the needs of people of determination.
“At the air expo, I aim to inspire others to break barriers and embrace the sky, demonstrating that with resilience and perseverance, we can transform the impossible into the possible.
“Together, we can pave the way for greater accessibility in aviation, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to soar.”
Future of Air Mobility
With its selection of cutting-edge electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and eco-friendly aviation technologies, the expo is offering a glimpse into the future of air mobility.
In addition to learning about new technologies and exploring topics like Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and urban air taxis, participants interacted with industry leaders and capitalised on valuable networking opportunities.
Shubhra Bhardwaj, one of the promoters of the Abu Dhabi Air Expo, said: “The aviation industry is evolving, and new advancements like eVTOLs present the sector with a wide range of opportunities to reconsider accessibility and inclusivity.
“Witnessing Imen Sfaxi share her story at the event is a proud moment for the industry, demonstrating the transformational power of technology and bravery.
“Women like her are not just participants, but trailblazers in the new era of aviation, paving the way for continued growth and progress and we are proud to be the platform that highlights her journey.” – TradeArabia News Service
