Travex, Asean's major travel event, kicks off in Malaysia

The Asean Travel Exchange (Travex), a major event for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, opened its doors today (January 15) in the Malaysian city of Johor Baru (JB) gathering more than 1,000 delegates from across the globe.
Held under the theme 'Unity in Motion: Shaping Asean’s Tourism Tomorrow', Travex was inaugurated in the presence of Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the head of JB government, and the Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre.
Part of the Asean Tourism Forum 2025, Travex is a business platform designed for Asean buyers and sellers to connect with each other and explore a diverse range of destination products and services, said the event organisers.
Speaking at the event, Ghazi said the Travex highlights Asean's spirit of unity in promoting the region as a global tourism attraction.
"In Johor, we have a unique advantage as a bridge between Malaysia and neighbouring countries such as Singapore. This strategic position allows us to showcase not only the beauty of Johor but also the collective strength of Asean as a global tourism powerhouse," he said.
Minister King Sing called upon Asean governments to jointly create a future where global travellers will be captivated and inspired by Southeast Asia’s breathtaking natural scenery, rich cultural heritage, and inspirational stories.
Travex runs till January 20.
Buyers taking part in Travex can connect with over 100 Asean exhibitors showcasing a diverse range of destination products and services. It offers a unique opportunity for networking through pre-scheduled appointments that are essential to strengthen partnerships and explore new business avenues within the Asean tourism sector.
Meanwhile, Asean sellers have the opportunity to meet and promote related tourism products and services to more than 300 buyers from around the world.
