The US-based Hurd says its windows are handcrafted to ensure that they perfectly meet the requirements of a project.

CHOOSING the perfect windows and doors for a project can be a challenging task as getting the right interior and exterior finish, glazing, grilles and wood species are all important.
The US-based Hurd Windows and Doors, however, claims to make that choice much easier as it has every category more than covered.
And what’s more, it has being hand-crafting its products for more than 85 years — a tradition it continues even today, the company states.
Says Scott Klieforth, director of international sales for Hurd: “You have dozens of satisfactory wooden windows and patio doors to choose from. But as you may have already discovered, not many of them are custom-made in the exact size and shape you want. Very few have the glazing options to match every location and every angle of the sun; even fewer are available as many as in nine types of wood, 11 different hardware finishes and unlimited colours of low-maintenance aluminium cladding.”
“Only one brand – Hurd Windows and Doors – gives you all of these features while sharing your commitment to a single ideal: perfection,” he claims.
Klieforth continues: “It may surprise some people, but even in this day and age, we still make Hurd windows and doors carefully and proudly by hand. So they not only fit better and look better, they also perform better. As a result, we may not make as many windows as some companies. But we figure, we’ll stop crafting ours by hand just as soon as people start building their homes on an assembly line.”
Hurd windows and patio doors come in a vast array of colours, styles, sizes, shapes and other options. A comprehensive product line is also available in all-wood or low-maintenance aluminium clad wood.
In addition to ponderosa pine interior wood, customers can choose from eight attractive wood species that include white or red oak, Douglas fir, lyptus, cherry, mahogany, alder (clear or knotty) and maple.
“In fact, we actually allow the client to specify windows, doors and trim from any workable species. We offer 20 special colour options for exterior cladding, while also custom matching any colour in the rainbow. For colour anodising requirements, we have seven finishes to choose from at no up-charge,” Klieforth points out. “For the perfect finishing touch, clients can choose from our unique screen blind, our array of grilles and divided lite profiles, our ComfortGlazed options, our custom-factory-painting option, or the designer elegance of our multiple hardware finishes including anodised copper,” he adds.
Elaborating on one of its high-end products, Klieforth says: “Our hurricane-resistant Hurd FeelSafe windows and patio doors feature high-strength, shatter-resistant, laminated glass, built to withstand the rigours of hurricane conditions.
“Hurd FeelSafe glass meets and even exceeds the toughest structural codes, providing greater protection from intruders as well as wind-borne debris. These windows and patio doors are available with laminated glass or laminated insulated glass that achieves the Energy Star rating.”
