BRAKEL Aluminium’s Inova, an aesthetic ventilation window designed specifically for use in vertical applications, won a bronze medal at The Big 5 Gaia Awards in Dubai last November.
The Gaia Awards recognised environment-friendly and innovative products that were displayed at the show.
The window has been specially developed for use in utility buildings such as shopping centres, atria and public buildings.
“At least 30 per cent of the Inova is made out of recycled aluminium. The window is thermally broken, which assures a minimum energy loss due to the difference between outdoor and indoor temperatures,” says Guido Nieuwenhuis, a spokesman for the Netherlands-based manufacturer. “Thanks to its narrow profile, the Inova is suitable for use in facades. In its closed position, the operating system is totally concealed from view. Furthermore, it can be fitted in all types of glazing systems and other built-in systems due to its flexible flange types and dimensions. In addition, every type of glass up to 40 mm-thickness (high insulation value) can be fitted in the window.”

The Inova profile is significantly smaller than the Luma ventilation window profile – another product within Brakel’s ventilation windows range – thereby enhancing its suitability in building façades. The built-in angle is 90 degrees. The structure consists of fully thermally-broken aluminium profiles.
The opening angle of the window in relation to the base structure is variable to an angle of 80 degrees (standard 30 degrees).
The Inova is fully approved for smoke and heat ventilation purposes (temperature tested, opened/closed for at least, 11,000 times, opened/closed also against wind loads), he points out. Attention to detail ensures that the window satisfies the stringent requirements of aesthetically demanding buildings. The frame will be sealed by means of EPDM rubber profiles.
In its standard design, the Inova is provided in a powder-coated finish.
The Inova range is offered in various frame options including: single-laminated glass, insulated glass, double and triple-walled polycarbonate, single and double-walled aluminium.
Rectangular forms are available with the following limitations:
• A frame height from 600 mm to 2,000 mm;
• A frame width from 600 mm to 2,500 mm;
• A maximum surface area of 3.5 sq m;
• Glass thickness can vary from 6 to 40 mm;
• Build-in angle 90 degrees; and
• Opening angle of maximum 80 degrees.
The weight of the Inova depends on the dimensions and the panel insulation. The maximum weight of the panel insulation is 45 kg/sq m.
ALso, cylinders, gas springs, and electro-motors will not be in view when the window is in its closed position, Nieuwenhuis says.
The Inova can be fitted with a compressed air, an electric 24 V or an electric 230 V operation.
Flange thickness of the Inova is variable with a minimum thickness of 5 mm and a maximum thickness of 55 mm.
