US-based Action Floor Systems, whose systems have already won widespread acceptance in the Middle East, is looking at further penetrating the markets of the region with its innovative natural new hardwood sports floors that are engineered to look attractive while delivering high performance.
Among its most popular systems in the region is ProAction Thrust, an innovative system featuring the company’s dual durometer natural rubber ProAction pads, which was promoted at the Big 5 in Dubai last year alongside its line of products.
Hailing from Mercer, Wisconsin, Action Floor Systems has been designing and manufacturing solid hardwood sports floors for more than 20 years. Today, the company stakes claim to being the largest supplier of hardwood sports floors in the US and one of the largest hardwood sports floor manufacturers in the world.
Says David Leggate, the firm’s international representative, who was earlier based in Dubai: “Many people around the world marvel at the beauty of a natural new hardwood sports floor, but few realise how much knowledge and engineering are required to ensure that the floor not only looks attractive but delivers extraordinary performance.”
“ProAction Thrust, one of our exemplary systems, is a good example. With a superior ball bounce, it is an ideal choice for high-performance applications, such as a premium basketball floor. The design and formulation of its unique ProAction pads makes this system DIN and EN certified, qualifying it as a FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball)-approved system, while maintaining a simple and economical construction. It is the only such two-layer plywood and pad system with a solid northern hard maple floor that is FIBA, DIN and EN certified. It’s ideal for high-performance basketball applications.”
Another popular floor from Action is the ActionThrust I, a floating system which provides excellent shock absorption, according to him.
He continues: “This system consists of two layers of plywood with 3/4 -inch pneumatic natural rubber pads affixed to the bottom and maple flooring attached to the top.
Action Floor Systems has executed projects in all the GCC countries, besides other Middle East countries, working with partners in each of them. Its partners keep stock and are fully trained and authorised to install these sport floor systems. Last year, Action manufactured and shipped some 750,000 sq m of maple flooring, exporting to 24 countries including the GCC countries, and Egypt, Jordan and Iraq.
Commenting on the company’s wide range of highly engineered sub-floor systems, which include fixed resilient, floating and fixed systems, Leggate says: “Each system is designed to support different levels of budget and play in all types of sports activities such as basketball, squash, racquetball, volleyball, badminton, aerobics, dance and other competitions. Colleges and universities often require floors that provide greater ball bounce and that are more resilient to reduce injuries for the more competitive 18- to 23-year-old athletes who use them.”
