Compact Dinos make light of hard work

01 February 2009

Dinolift, a leading Finnish manufacturer of trailer-mounted aerial work platforms, has recently boosted its range of easy-to-use, lightweight and compact equipment with the addition of a new narrow aerial work platform, the Dino 120TN — as well as new battery-operated versions named Dino 135TB, Dino 150TB and Dino 180TB.

Some of these platforms were promoted at the Big 5 PMV show in Dubai last year.
The Dino 120TN, which is only 88 cm wide, represents the typical and acknowledged features of the Dino family.
The strong boom with a long horizontal outreach is composed of three sections, which accounts for the short transport length of 5.50 m.
“Towing the unit with a normal passenger car is easy since it is light in weight (1,350 kg). The basket carries a weight of up to 120 kg within the entire superb sideways outreach of 7.9 m,” says a spokesman for the manufacturer.
A highlight of the Dino 120TN is the round one-man basket, fitted to the narrow model, offering a user-friendly working environment for the operator.
The basket offers a large space for tools and its round form ensures easy access to constricted corners.
The machine can also be made narrow by moving the axle to the narrow position hydraulically by pushing a button — which changes the lift into narrow mode automatically.
The outriggers can be easily turned alongside the chassis after releasing the locking by a handle.

TB models
The new battery-operated versions — Dino 135TB, Dino 150TB and Dino 180TB — are compact and easy to use and they continue the fresh, good-looking Dino design.
Elaborating on the advantages of these models, the spokesman says: “Thanks to the batteries, Dino TB models can be used wherever electricity is not available. The machine works with mains power as well, and it is possible to use the machine even when charging the battery.
“With the Dino TB models, environmental aspects have also been taken into account. The machines are energy-saving since the motor is running only when using the boom functions.”
In terms of user-friendliness, the proportional steering and telescopic boom of the machine secure stable and close access to the work target even at long outreach and the hydraulic outriggers enable quick and easy set-up. The driving system and the basket rotation are standard as in all Dino models. Although equipped with the battery case, the machines are lightweight and therefore easy to tow and move at the work site.

Aerial work platforms
The Dino range of aerial work platforms consists of nine trailer-mounted types, covering working heights from 12 to 26 m, and two self-propelled models (20.5 and 24 m), whose booms are based on telescopic or articulating telescopic boom structures. Easy towability is common to all the trailer-mounted Dino products.
All Dinos feature continuous boom rotation and hydraulic outriggers with basket rotation being standard and the baskets being equipped with two power outlets.
The machines are powered by electricity, and are also available with either gasoline or diesel aggregate. The self-propelled units use a diesel engine as the power source and the boom can be operated with AC-power as an option.
The self-propelled Dino 205RXT and Dino 240RXT are agile and easy to use in rough terrain. Although lightweight, the machines have a great sideways outreach as a result of precise weight distribution and can be set up from the basket.
Speaking on their performance, the spokesman says: “The hydraulic outriggers enable horizontal positioning of the machine even in difficult ground conditions and the work target can be accessed from the most suitable location. Due to their light weight, the units can work on unstable ground and they are light enough even to be lifted up to work in a multi-storey building.
“As with the other XT-models of Dinolift, the combination of telescopic boom and articulated riser ensures access to difficult work positions, even over obstacles. The new motors of Dino RXT-models reduce emissions significantly and therefore help to meet the growing environmental challenges.”
These self-propelled compact work platforms are easy to transport on a truck and their small measurements combined with four-wheel and crab steering enable these machines to move around the toughest of work sites. Four-wheel drive is standard and all driving and boom functions are operated from a well-designed panel in the spacious basket. The steering uses the IQAN computer control system. A self-levelling system is available as an option.

Dino 260XTD

The biggest machine within the Dino family is the Dino 260XTD, which has a working height of 26 m and sideways outreach of 11.7 m. All the boom and chassis movements of Dino 260XTD can be operated from the basket. Due to this feature, the machine can be moved to another location and the outriggers controlled rapidly, without the operator having to leave the basket, says the spokesman. As in all Dino units, the lower steering can be used for controlling all the boom movements.
The booms are controlled proportionally with two joysticks and the steering is realised using the CAN bus computer control system.
The machine is equipped with an automatic chassis levelling system. An electronic device measures the position of the unit, with the display showing when the machine is horizontal.
Dinolift started producing platforms more than 30 years ago, and has manufactured over 7,000 units to date. To meet increasing demand, the company recently extended its production facilities by 3,500 sq m and added a new production line, which significantly helps shorten the production cycle.
“The secret behind the company’s steady success in the access business is the superb machine characteristics, combined with the reliable quality. Dino units meet the EN280 requirements and bear CE-certification. The company has also been awarded the ISO 9001 certificate,” says the spokesman.
Being export-oriented, over 75 per cent of Dinolift’s units are exported to more than 40 countries.
