DESIGN of highly-sustainable and functional iconic façades will be in focus at the Façades Design and Engineering 2009 Summit being held this month (March 23 to 24) at the Al Manzil Hotel, Burj Dubai.
The event will feature over 20 high-profile speakers from the world’s leading architecture and façade engineering companies, including Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Aldar Properties, WS Atkins and Partners Overseas, Norr Group, Hyder Consulting, Zaha Hadid, RMJM, Centre for Window and Cladding Technology, Woods Bagot, Wintech, KPF and many more.
The event is being organised by the International Quality and Productivity Centre (IQPC). Chris Macey, chairman of Society of Façade Engineering and group managing director at Wintech will chair the summit.
Topics under discussion will encompass two main areas: building greener façades and innovations and technology in façade building. It will also feature exclusive case studies about the Masdar headquarters, ADIA headquarters, DIFC Lighthouse, The Okhta Tower, Villamar Harbour, Opus Office Tower and The Pad, Cybertecture Egg and Technosphere. There will also be two master classes before and after the event. Dr Stephen Ledbetter, director of the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology will lead the first full-day master class on performance specification of building envelopes, while the second full-day master class on integrating early modelling within the design stage will be led by Kevin Leahy, board director of Broadway Malyan and Ian Walker, head of Environmental Engineering, Broadway Malyan.
