Dupont’s SentryGlas interlayer has helped create an iconic corporate landmark in Barcelona, Spain.
The glass facade of the Gas Natural Group’s headquarters features an imaginary bite-mark overhanging the main entrance to the building with the under-side of this curved section representing the indentations left by a shark’s teeth.
This dramatic facade was created by 100 trapezoidal glass panels, measuring up to 5 by 2 m in size, which use a combination of strong and rigid SentryGlas structural interlayers over an area of approximately 220 sq m to provide overhead glazing with a high safety factor and excellent post-breakage properties.
SentryGlas interlayer, which is said to be five times stronger and 100 times stiffer than conventional laminating materials, has been used to create stunning architectural facades worldwide and is now being promoted in the Gulf.
DuPont says that SentryGlas can be laminated in the region by a network of qualified laminators including Gulf Glass Industries, Al Abbar, Alumco and White Aluminium.
Dupont also offers SentryGlas Expressions, a creative technology that offers a new way to harness digital technologies to produce a variety of decorative glass. The proprietary technology enables printing directly onto the plastic interlayer for laminated safety glass.
DuPont has licensed this technology to Maxigrafix – Alaa Printing Technology, in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, in order to expand the use of SentryGlas Expressions in the Gulf.
