Renewable energy under focus
OGS 2009, the 16th edition of the premier oil, gas, renewable energy and automation event, has launched the Alter Energy Convention 2009 as a conference-led exhibition dedicated to the management of carbon and water footprints in the Middle East using alternative energies.
The event, to be held from October 27 to 29 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, aims to leverage the increasing role of renewable energy in the long-term strategy of GCC countries. Statistics from the Emirates Energy Award show that between $160 billion to $200 billion will be invested across the GCC in various energy projects, including several developments in renewable energy resources such as solar, wind and hydrogen.
Show on building automation
THE second Buildings under Control Symposium 2009, scheduled from September 8 to 10 in Vienna, Austria, will show the latest developments in the management and automation of commercial buildings and real estate.
The focus will be on IP-based solutions incorporating communication technologies like ISO/EN14908 (LON), BACnet (ISO16484-5), Web Services, OPC, Dali, Modbus, M-Bus, and other open communication standards. Core technologies, user interfaces, integration platforms and network infrastructure products will also be discussed. Loytec of Austria, Newron System of France, and Cimetrics of the US are the organisers.
Domotex receives quality visitors
DOMOTEX Middle East 2009, the only dedicated carpets and floor coverings exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region, recorded “overwhelming response”, with participants expressing high-quality visitor footfall considering the current status of the global economy.
More than 215 exhibitors from 27 countries and around 5,149 international visitors gathered in a quest for business opportunities, to discover new flooring solutions and trends and increase market exposure during the show’s three-day run from May 17 to 19.
One of the key innovations of Domotex this year was the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID) flooring seminar, which gathered professional interior designers from the UAE and other GCC countries who provided visitors with information about the role of flooring in interior design. Other popular segments included the Designers Corner, where architects and designers showcased reference projects, seminars and displays of design flooring; and Creative Flooring.
A number of exhibitors reported success in clinching deals. These included Abu Dhabi National Carpets which confirmed close to “100 deals and agreements worth at least $1 million”.
Hotel show attracts ‘quality’ crowd
EXHIBITORS at the Hotel Show 2009 were well satisfied by the quality of visitor turnout at event held at the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre from May 24 to 26.
New York-based Archetypal Imaginary, which furnishes and installs all types of wooden flooring and exhibiting at show for the first time, said the show had been ‘fabulous’. Its CEO Avedis Duvenjian said: “The visitors to the show were totally focused, knew what questions to ask and there were certainly no time wasters.”
Maggie Moore, exhibition director, commented, “It was only natural given the current economic climate that numbers of international visitors would be lower than last year. However it was gratifying to witness the positive reaction from the exhibitors. To use an industry term, the visitors were clearly five-star.”
The Hotel Show hosted the latest products, services and technologies from all aspects of the hospitality and leisure sector. Exhibitors from more than 48 countries were on show including from France, Italy, Germany, Cyprus, Greece, Thailand, Portugal, the UK, Spain, the US, China, Turkey, Belgium, Pakistan, India, Taiwan, Philippines, Australia and Brazil.
AHEC to make Turkish expo debut
THE American Hardwood Export Council (Ahec), in association with Hardwood States Export Group (HSEG), will be hosting its maiden pavilion for US hardwood exporters at Intermob in Turkey.
The 12th edition of this premier Turkish fair for the furniture industry, accessories, forest products and wood technology is being held from September 26 to 30 at the Tüyap Fair, Convention and Congress Center, near Istanbul. American hardwoods are becoming increasingly well-established in the Turkish market with latest data showing $11.8 million worth of hardwood logs, lumber and veneer being shipped from the US to Turkey during 2008, marking a rise of 68.4 per cent over the previous year. Of these products, hardwood logs accounted for the majority and shipments reached $6.2 million last year, an increase of 60.1 per cent on 2007. At the same time, hardwood lumber shipments reached $2.1 million or 3,243 cu m, while hardwood veneer shipments reached a value of $3.5 million.
Experts to meet in Nuremberg
THE first European Heat Pump Summit – powered by Chillventa – is set to take place in the Congress Center in Nuremberg, Germany, from September 9 to 10. The summit deals with heat pump technologies in the industrial, commercial, residential, heating and cooling, and components and equipment segments.
NürnbergMesse is organising the new dialogue forum in close cooperation with the sponsors IEA-HPP, ehpa, bwp, DKV and IZW. The focus will be on the possibilities and limitations of heat pumps in private, commercial and industrial applications.
