BUILDING System Integration (BSI-Steel), a prominent Qatar-based specialist in designing and fabricating pre-engineered steel buildings (PEBs), continues to be involved in a wide range of projects in the country.
As the only manufacturer of PEBs in Qatar, the company’s main goal is to serve the market with the latest pre-engineered steel buildings of the highest quality in the area, says Muhammad Al Khudhairi, managing director.
The company’s PEBs can be used for a wide range of applications, including in the building of warehouses, aircraft hangars, factories, shopping malls, supermarkets, labour camps, car-parks, office blocks of up to three storeys, and showrooms.
The company is currently working on projects in the new industrial area of Doha, Doha International Airport as well as the New Doha International Airport. It is also supplying its PEBs for a double-storey mall, labour camps, a precast concrete factory, an international school and a logistic warehouse.
Commenting on business levels last year, Al Khudhairi says: “The company achieved good results last year, despite having been established in the market in 2006. We have seen significant growth since our inception, especially since we relocated to our new factory. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and was built to enhance our production and ensure high quality and operational efficiency that supports our business.”
As for the future, he says: “I believe that next year will be a busy one with the company securing several projects because of our competitive edge in the market as a local manufacturer. We plan to boost our market share to between 40 to 60 per cent, as the company is now focusing on enhancing its presence in the Qatari markets.”
Hence, BSI-Steel has embarked upon a promotional campaign to create greater awareness of its products and its presence in the Qatari market as the only local PEB manufacturer.
BSI-Steel is equipped with the latest machinery to fabricate 4,000 tonnes of PEBs per month. This includes 2,400 tonnes of frames (painted steel members), 800 tonnes of secondary ‘C’ and ‘Z’ galvanised members and 800 tonnes of panels and panel accessories.
“We have been able to develop turnkey building solutions, working with local contractors, thus ensuring that systems including steel, aluminium cladding, special roofing and other requirements are handled by one team,” says a spokesman for the company.
BSI-Steel offers a variety of frame options including clear span, multi-span, single slope and roof systems. It designs buildings to handle loads of top-running, underhung, jib and monorail cranes, and provides a variety of fascia to conceal the gable roof slope of buildings including, vertical, centre-curved, bottom-curved, top-and-bottom-curved and parapet fascia.
Single-skin roof and wall panels are produced in a BS38/200 profile in 0.5 mm Aluzinc-coated steel, galvanised steel or 0.7 mm aluminium. They are available in both mill finish and pre-painted finish in four standard colours. Interior liners, partitions, fascia and soffit panels are made using the same profile. The company complies with the latest applicable US design and building codes for the design and fabrication of PEBs.
To create these buildings, BSI-Steel uses a design and detailing software that is developed and sold by Metal Building Software, a US-based company that specialises in one product only – software for the design and drafting of PEBs.
BSI Steel’s head office and plant are in the new industrial area of Doha and it registers a turnover between $10 to $12 million annually. It also has a sales office in Doha. It is well-equipped with facilities for material handling and transportation and has 1,450 sq m of office space, including a canteen, clinic and plant facility. The company has a staff strength of 130, which it intends to increase to 200 by the year-end.
