Jotun unveils new energy-saving line

01 June 2010

JOTUN Powder Coatings has launched a new collection of energy-saving and environment-friendly powder coatings that utilises a distinctive heat management technology.

Jotun’s Cool Shades Collection has been formulated to reduce the temperature of aluminium building components that are exposed to the sun, thereby contributing to effectively lowering energy consumption and cooling costs.
“The range is based on a heat management pigment technology that reflects the infrared energy from sunlight and keeps coated surfaces much cooler, while still absorbing visible light energy to allow colours to maintain their vibrancy,” says Claudio Lurilli, divisional marketing director, Jotun Powder Coatings.
The collection offers a wide range of colours to match both modern and traditional architecture, and is suitable for window frames, curtain-walls, shutters, louvres, and wall panels. It is available in the form of industry-leading high-performance polyester powder coatings – Corro-Coat PE-SDF Super Durable as well as the standard architectural grade Corro-Coat PE-F Façade.
“Sustainable architecture ensures that what we do today will not limit opportunities for future generations, and we have created the Cool Shades Collection based on this belief,” says Lurilli. “The environment-friendly properties of our new range speak of our commitment to addressing the issues pertaining to green building and living and construction of buildings that enhance the quality of life and minimise environmental impact.”
An increasing number of structures are being built to green building codes that aim to achieve sustainability and increase energy efficiency. Complementing this trend is the Cool Shades Collection that cuts down heat build-up indoors and thus reducing the use of cooling systems.
“The collection is another testament of our commitment to sustainable architecture,” says Lurilli.
“As a powder coating, it is environmentally friendly due to the absence of solvents, which results in the release of negligible amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. In addition, our lead-free product can be disposed of easily and safely, while unused or over-sprayed powder can be recovered and reused for minimal wastage,” he adds.
Jotun Powder Coatings’ architectural products have been used in protecting prestigious landmarks in the Middle East and South East Asia such as the Burj Khalifa and the seven-star hotel Burj Al Arab, both in Dubai, UAE, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Thailand, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia and the Regatta residential district in Jakarta, Indonesia.
