Megger sales soar on regional demand
Ever since Megger chose Bahrain for its regional office, business for the company in the entire region has increased significantly, thanks to its Middle East and Africa team.

MEGGER has witnessed a remarkable increase in sales since it set up its regional office in Bahrain last year, thanks to the efforts of its Middle East and Africa team. These efforts to promote the company’s test and measurement equipment within the region’s electrical industry have recently been commended by the UK-based manufacturer.
The Middle East and South African team recently received awards for ‘Exceptional Achievement 2009’. The awards were presented by Peter Frank, chairman of Megger, to Nick Parton, operations and sales manager for Megger MEA (Middle East and Africa) and Marius Pitzer, regional sales manager in South Africa, during the firm’s annual sales meeting.
“The award recognises the hard work and dedication of the Middle East and Africa team in achieving significant sales growth during a time of world economic crisis – from which the area was not completely isolated,” comments Parton.
Megger has distribution and technical sales offices throughout the world providing local customer support. Due to the constant demand from local markets and the ever-increasing requirements of the region, Megger decided that a regional office was needed to cover the Middle East and Africa.
“Bahrain is an ideal location for us – the growth within the region is astounding,” says Parton. “Megger has had a presence in the region for the past 30 years but the increase in demand for our product range convinced us that we needed to be more prominent in order to sustain that growth. Our local team has increased significantly over the past two years, with technical staff who are experts in their own fields and in the products we sell in the region, which is paramount to our growing success.”
The Bahrain office, which was opened in May last year, employs a team of local talent that includes two regional sales managers, two technical support engineers and a regional marketing manager. This month sees the addition of an after-sales support manager.
“The Middle East section of Megger regularly provides after-sales service and conducts seminars across the GCC and Egypt,” says Parton.
The Megger product range covers the broad spectrum of electrical test requirements, offering portable instruments that are safe, reliable and easy to use, thus offering exceptional value for money for the end-user. “The Megger name is synonymous with innovation, with Megger having developed the very first insulation resistance tester back in the 19th century, and having over the years been first on the market with multimeters, cable fault locators, and automatic protective relay test sets,” he says.
For the construction industry, Megger offers a range of products to test the safety and integrity of electrical wiring within the building.
These include insulation resistance and continuity testers to ensure good safe electrical insulation and the integrity of protective conductors, loop impedance test sets to ensure correct low-resistance earth paths to allow protective devices to operate, RCD test sets to check the operation of the circuit breakers, multimeters and clampmeters to assist in routine maintenance, service and repair, and earth testers to confirm good fault paths to ensure electrical safety.
“A good earth is essential to reduce noise and provide the level of power quality required by modern IT systems and electronically controlled machinery, Parton explains.
For the power industry, the Megger range of products includes some of the latest developments in cable fault location, protection testing, circuit breaker testing, transformer and battery testing, power quality analysis and insulation diagnostics.
“Recent developments have provided new test capabilities for power system protection and control engineers, and improved the safety, speed and diagnostic capabilities of circuit breaker maintenance engineers,” he says. “Transformer testing is being revolutionised by the diagnostic functionality resulting from the sweep frequency analysis techniques being developed at Megger’s Sweden factory. This month will see the launch of the latest product to stem from this research, and for the first time will allow engineers to assess transformer insulation quality with accurate individual temperature correction factors that are test-piece specific.”
“Reliable electrical installations are essential to both the construction and power industries, and the basis of reliability is accurate and reliable test results when commissioning and performing routine maintenance applications,” Parton concludes.
