BASED on market demand for 800 kVA generators, Atlas Copco has launched the QAC 800, which is an upgraded version of its QAC 750.
The European manufacturer has also recently introduced a new generation of LP 18 power packs that have a new design, where the top cover protects the engine well.
The new QAC 800 delivers 800 kVA of prime power at 50 Hz to meet increasing demands from generator users in the market. Although the engine model and type denomination of the QAC 800 is enhanced, it still has the same engine power as the QAC 750 with a MWM engine of model type TCD 2016 V12.
Commenting on the attributes of the QAC range, a spokesman for the company says: “The QAC series generators are built to withstand extreme temperatures, and designed to work in all weather conditions. A built-in engine coolant heater ensures quick and easy start-up in cold conditions, while a variable speed electric cooling fan allows continuous operation in higher temperature environments, as in deserts.”
All QAC series generators have been designed with safety in mind, and have a four-pole main motorised circuit breaker, providing overload and short-circuit protection, an emergency stop, automatic engine alarms and shutdowns and are standard equipped with refinery equipment for safe operation at petroleum plants. The generators are entirely EC safety regulation compliant, the spokesman points out.
“With its ‘whisper quiet’ operation sound levels, the QAC series generators are suited for operations in the most noise-sensitive of environments,” he states.
The double-skinned and removable fuel tank with leakage sensors and spillage-free frame construction prevents accidental engine fluids or fuel spills, eliminating the risk of any ground pollution.
The QAC 800 can be easily handled by crane, lift or truck. Its robust 20-ft CSC ISO container enclosure has lockable wide opening doors so that all components are always within reach, ensuring that maintenance and service is both easy and stress free, the spokesman says.
“The innovative dual-compartment design – with the engine/alternator compartment separated from the cooler compartment – ensures maximum efficiency while operating in extreme conditions. With the separated power cubicle, opposite the control cubicle, a safer operation is achieved,” he adds.
The state-of-the-art Atlas Copco Qc 4002 control panel includes features such as an LCD screen with numerous read-outs, warnings and shutdowns – all displayed in various local languages.
“Applications from ‘island operation’ and ‘automatic mains failure’ to the most complicated paralleling operations such as ‘load sharing’, ‘peak shaving’ and ‘base load’ operations are done with this single, high-tech generator controller,” says the spokesman. “This multi-purpose control system makes the QAC series generator an outstanding, easy-to-operate machine, offering a single solution to the most varying applications.”
LP 18 power packs
Meanwhile, Atlas Copco has recently expanded its range of compact, portable petrol- or diesel-driven power packs with the introduction of the petrol-driven LP 18-30 PE and LP 18-40 PE.
“The 2010 generation of power packs, starting with LP 18-30 PE and LP 18-40 PE, are an ideal power source for a wide range of applications in the 20 to 40-litre-per-minute range. Two new electric-driven power packs have also been added to the range – LP 18-30 E and LP 18-40 E, suitable for indoor applications,” says Jan Byrresen, product-line manager for handheld hydraulic equipment.
The new-design top cover of the 2010 generation power packs can easily be opened to reach the hydraulic parts as well as the air and oil filters when they need to be changed. All controls and connections are placed on the front panel, giving the operator easy access.
“As all moving parts of the power pack work in a closed, lubricated circuit, wear is very low,” says Byrresen. “The easy access for checking and servicing the power pack also minimises maintenance times.”
The power packs have an electric and recoil start system and feature a thermostatically-controlled oil cooler, allowing quick warm-ups that helps protect the hydraulic oil from overheating. The large front-mounted cooler and air fan give efficient cooling of both the hydraulic system and the engine in warmer climate conditions.
Light and compact, the power packs are easy to store; a strong frame, large wheels and foldable handles enables easy transport and use on tough work sites.
The power packs are equipped with flat-face, quick-release couplings for easy and fast connections to the tools.
