Garden show to highlight green trends

01 October 2010

GARDEN+LANDSCAPING Middle East will aim to showcase emerging trends such as eco-friendly landscaping and organic alternatives to fertiliser and herbicide use when it opens in Dubai this month (October 31 to November 2).

The region’s leading trade event for the garden, landscaping and outdoor living industries will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. It will bring together leading manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, garden and landscaping professionals, developers and end-users, providing a glimpse into the latest trends and developments in this sector the world over as well an insight into the trends and specific requirements of the region.

Demand for garden and landscaping products is expected to rise given the steady growth in the Saudi Arabian construction sector, particularly with the creation of new infrastructure and public utilities.

“The Saudi construction industry is estimated to be worth around SR1.06 trillion ($283.8 billion) with large infrastructure and public utility projects in the pipeline. We estimate that the garden and landscaping needs within this figure to be about 10 per cent of the construction cost,” said Ahmed Pauwels, chief executive officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organiser of the event.

Commenting on trends in the sector, a spokesman for Epoc Messe Frankfurt says: “Among the noticeable trends in the region is an increased use of eco-friendly landscaping techniques, such as the use of shrubbery and local vegetation in the place of non-indigenous plants which are resource-heavy and consume a lot of water. “In addition to this, the use of recycled water is increasingly prevalent in water-scarce Middle East.”
