Oman on track with mobile units

Powerscreen’s entry into Oman’s market has brought about an increase in demand for mobile crushing and screening equipment, which is being seen by contractors as the right fit for their projects.

THE efficiency and productivity offered by Powerscreen’s crushing, screening and washing equipment has helped popularise mobile plant in Oman, according to the leading Ireland-based manufacturer.

General Engineering Services (GES), a dealer for Powerscreen in the sultanate, says the market is now dominated by mobile plant with the majority in favour of track-mounted units.

“Customers prefer compact equipment that they can move from site to site at a rapid pace with minimal logistical hassles, given the large number of jobs,” says Imran Kazi, manager products for GES. “They are finding tracked crushers and screens the right fit for their projects, backed by the fact that Powerscreen plants have a lower initial cost, operating cost and maintenance cost.”

The Oman market was dominated by static equipment until Powerscreen entered the sultanate.

There was a small number of mobile crushing and screening plants operating for road building companies in the local market, but following Powerscreen’s entry there has been an increased acceptance of mobile crushing and screening equipment by quarry operators, he says.

Mining project developers and mine owners want to remain focused on their core business. Rapidly rising cost of quarry operations encourages them to outsource the quarry operation to contractors who own crushing units. This has led to a change in market dynamics and the expansion of the mobile crushing and screening market, says Powerscreen.

General Engineering Services entered the market with mobile crushing and screening plants and soon found its sales figures going up. The dealership has sold more than 45 crushers and screens in four years.

Sami Saeed Al Bahr Al Rawas, a quarry owner from Oman-based Nasr Arabian Company previously purchased static plants until being introduced to the concept of mobile crushing and screening plants by the sales team at General Engineering Services. The company now owns four Powerscreen mobile crushers and screens – a Pegson 1412 Trakpactor, Pegson XR400, an H6203R and a Warrior 1800.

Al Rawas ordered a combination of a Pegson XR400 and a Warrior 1800 screen for a construction and highway contract and uses the produced aggregate as road base material.

The Pegson 1412 Trakpactor and H6203R screen are working in combination, producing 250 tonnes per hour (tph) of crushed aggregate that it uses for readymix concrete plant, asphalt plant and road base material.

“I think the mobile crushers and screens are amazing machines,” says Al Rawas. “It is very important to have a low fuel consumption and high productivity level – and these mobile plants have both, as compared to the static plants I owned previously.”

Nasr Arabian is so impressed by Powerscreen crushers and screens that the company has placed an order for a Pegson XH500 and Chieftain 2100X.

Says Al Rawas: “Being mobile, compact and remotely operated enables the tracked units to operate close to my quarry site, thereby reducing the use of large conveyors belts, in turn balancing the operating and maintenance costs. Tracked equipment has other advantages as they can be commissioned and dismantled quickly, thereby reducing waste when compared with a static plant.”

Powerscreen – a Terex Corporation brand – is an expert in the design and manufacture of mobile crushing equipment, mobile screening and washing equipment. Among its “earth-friendly solutions” is Aggwash, which was launched last June at Hillhead, a quarrying, recycling and heavy construction show held in the UK.

Aggwash is a mobile wash plant that brings together for the first time rinsing, screening, scrubbing and sand washing capabilities on a single transportable chassis. Primarily designed for the processing of construction and demolition waste but equally suited to virgin material applications, Aggwash is capable of producing four grades of aggregate and a single grade of sand at up to 60 tph.

“With today’s environmental focus on ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ and ongoing concern over energy consumption, the innovative Powerscreen Aggwash is designed to play a helpful role in many potential applications, enabling a reduction in required landfill space, production of recycled materials and lowering transport costs,” says a spokesman for Powerscreen.

Powerscreen has seen considerable interest and demand for Aggwash, not only in the UK but in other parts of Europe and in North America. Going forward, Powerscreen design engineers will be looking to make Aggwash an even more efficient machine, as technology now in testing is further developed.
