Purpose-designed for HVAC applications in the Middle East, Zamil Air Conditioners’ new ResisTec anti-corrosion coating promises to enhance the durability and lifespan of air-conditioners.
01 April 2011
ZAMIL Air Conditioners (ZAC) has launched its new ResisTec product line of high-quality anti-corrosion coating solutions created specifically for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) products and components.
ZAC, a sector business of Zamil Industrial Investment Company (Zamil Industrial), is a leading international manufacturer and service provider of air-conditioning systems in the Middle East.
The latest products come in the wake of major research and development (R&D) initiatives that have put ZAC in the lead in innovation, expanding the Dammam-based company’s product line in a big way.

Bunyan ... looking at select export markets. |
Large-scale investments in its R&D operations last year paved the way for the launch of a new process cooling chiller system ‘Cooline from Zamil’ and saw the company winning accolades for the low-carbon Geoclima chiller line, which secured the Barclay’s Data Centre Project award, according to chief operating officer Osama Bunyan.
Its latest innovation ResisTec, an anti-corrosion coating for HVAC coils, panels and drain pans, is designed to protect the system from degradation and thus reduce its lifecycle costs and depreciation – effectively addressing concerns about the durability of air-conditioning systems, particularly under the harsh climatic conditions experienced in the Middle East and North Africa region.
“The innovative, environment-friendly ResisTec technology protects HVAC equipment from corrosion and deterioration with a negligible effect on the performance of the coated coils due to the slight drop in air pressure and change in the K-Value,” says Bunyan. “ResisTec was developed specifically to lengthen the product lifecycle and minimise equipment failure, especially under the harsh Middle Eastern climatic conditions. It has been subjected to numerous performance tests by third-party, internationally-certified laboratories, and has exhibited excellent resistance to corrosive environments.”
“The coating application can be undertaken at Zamil Air Conditioners factories or at equipment sites for refurbishment and retrofit purposes,” he says. “The ResisTec coil coating will be provided as a standard item on all Zamil Air Conditioners chillers and applied condensing units with aluminium fin condenser coils. It is also available as an affordable option on all other HVAC products from Zamil Air Conditioners.
“The new ResisTec anti-corrosive coatings are an integral part of the total Zamil CoolCare service plan, which also includes high-quality products and responsive maintenance services. The addition of ResisTec protects against performance degradation of HVAC systems, resulting in substantial reductions in lifecycle costs for equipment,” says Ahmed Zaatari, vice-president of Zamil Air Conditioners. “This has long been a concern of our customers, and we are happy to offer this exciting new technology as a cost-saving solution.”

The product has been specially designed for the Middle Eastern region, using technology “well ahead of the demand curve”, according to Bunyan.
“One of the unique requirements of the Middle East is that the products have to operate in environments where temperatures reach up to 55 deg C,” he says. “During the past few years, we have introduced a number of new products designed to meet market requirements, including high energy-efficiency chillers, process cooling and residential chillers, screw and scroll-type compressors, and environment-friendly refrigerant gases,” he adds.
The anti-corrosive coatings were developed in collaboration with a European consultant with third-party testing, field tests, technician training and sales taking almost a year. The coating material is manufactured in Europe and applied to products at Zamil’s factories, or on site for retrofits.
World-wide presence
A strong performance in 2010 greatly supported the crucial R&D activities of this leading producer and supplier of air-conditioning systems in the Middle East and North Africa.
Established in 1974, ZAC is one of five divisions trading under the umbrella of Zamil Industrial Investment Company, a Saudi Arabia publicly-listed company. The company has several international manufacturing facilities in Italy, Egypt, Vietnam, India and the UAE.
With its head office and prime plants in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and a production facility in Italy, Zamil Air Conditioners produces more than 900,000 air-conditioners per year. It supplies air-conditioning products across the world, the major markets being the GCC and the wider Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Asia.
Zamil Air Conditioners is an ISO 9001:2008-certified company. It is believed to be the first Middle Eastern company to have received the prestigious ARI (Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute, US) and Eurovent certifications for many of its products.
With its state-of-the-art testing facility Ikhtebar – a third-party air-conditioners testing facility built in by Interek Testing Services (ITS), certified by Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) – ZAC is the only manufacturer in the region capable of guaranteeing product performance in compliance with local, regional and international specifications and standards for operating performance, cooling capacity, energy efficiency, airflow, noise level and durability, says a spokesman for the company.
Now with a string of in-house brands, ZAC operates under four service areas: residential, commercial and industrial, services and contracting and Zamil Controls. The company has supplied to buildings in Dubai’s Business Bay development and Dubai Industrial Park and currently operates in markets across more than 55 countries.
“We started off manufacturing room air-conditioners, and have grown to offer end-to-end HVAC custom solutions, right from application study, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, commissioning and long-term maintenance,” Bunyan says.
The company also designs, manufactures, tests, markets and services a comprehensive range of air-conditioning products, from compact room air-conditioners and mini-splits to large-scale central air-conditioners, chillers and air-handling units for highly specialised, commercial and industrial applications. Products are marketed under five core brands: Classic, Cooline, CoolCare, ClimaTech and Geoclima.
“We look at expanding into new markets more from a profitable growth perspective. The select export markets we are looking at offer tremendous growth potential and we plan to expand our production facilities and introduce new products and services to our local and international clients,” Bunyan concludes.
Manufacturing all of its products from Saudi Arabia, Zamil Industrial’s product and service portfolio includes steel, air-conditioning, glass, concrete, insulation and other associated services for the region’s building and construction sector.
