KUWAIT Insulating Material Manufacturing Company (Kimmco), the Gulf’s leading insulation provider, and Leminar, one of the leading HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) distributors in the region, hosted joint seminars on insulation and sustainability in the UAE last month.

More than 500 consultants and contractors attended the seminars, which were held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai on October 11 and 12.

The seminars were introduced by Shahid Khan, vice-president insulation, at Alghanim Industries, Kimmco’s parent company and Navin Valrani, CEO of Leminar.

Following brief introductions from these officials and Kimmco’s general manager Hannes Visagie, Kimmco’s senior technical manager Dr Kailash Chandra gave a detailed presentation – complete with documentary video productions from UK and US fire safety organisations – on the outstanding benefits of fibreglass insulation as the insulating material of choice for HVAC applications, and its best-in-class thermal, acoustic and fire safety performance compared with other insulating materials.

In particular, he focused on the superior performance of mineral wool products versus plastic foam in the fire safety applicaitons. The outstanding performance of Kimmco rockwool and glasswool products compared to plastic foam insulation was neatly summarised in an easy-to-read chart given to each of the delegates.

Dr Chandra also highlighted the importance of glasswool insulation in saving energy – a growing challenge to governments, industries and individuals in the Middle East – and their direct contribution to Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and Estidama certification, key requirements for owners and developers in the region.
Kimmco is the sole approved insulation provider to Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, the world’s first zero-carbon, zero-waste city.

The Abu Dhabi and Dubai seminars also featured an informal quiz relating to insulation with the winners receiving as a gift a night’s stay and dinner at the Armani hotel in the Burj Khalifa, Dubai.
