REYNAERS is all set to cater to the ever-increasing demand in the construction sector of the gas-rich Gulf state of Qatar and will be at Project Qatar next month (May 6 to 9) to showcase its world-class products.
The aluminium systems provider is well placed to grab a slice of the construction bonanza – estimated to be worth some $220 billion in the run-up to the 2022 Fifa football World Cup – having already penetrated this market much earlier on with striking projects such as the Aspire Tower (Sports City Tower).
“I believe we are well rooted now in the minds of the various stakeholders in Qatar’s architectural aluminium industry and people recognise Reynaers and its product offerings quite well,” comments Ali Khalaf, managing director of Reynaers Middle East, the regional office for the Belgian firm. “We have decided to participate in Project Qatar this year as it has emerged as the most dynamic platform for buyers and suppliers to network and drive developments in Qatar’s multi-billion-dollar construction sector.”
“It will serve as the right forum to demonstrate Reynaers’ product portfolio,” he adds.
Some of the products that are in demand in Qatar include the CW 50-SC and CW 60 curtain-walling series. For door and window applications, the CS 59-Pa and Eco System have been among the favourites while BS 40 is the preferred sun-screening system. In addition to these products, the CS 77 series of doors and windows will also be exhibited at the event.
“The CS 77-BP (bullet proof) and CS 77-FP (fireproof) are specially designed in keeping with the current safety and security requirements of several projects,” Khalaf points out.
While the CS 77-BP series enables the realisation of bullet-proof doors and windows according to the most stringent European standards, the system’s fireproofing properties are achieved by introducing a special cooling material into the profile chambers and by using self-adhesive and water-resistant swelling gaskets.
Other products that will be showcased include the Aluwood series (RW 100 and RW105), and the Glass Patio Series (GP 51).
Khalaf continues: “We intend to showcase Reynaers’ strength in this market in terms of the projects undertaken so far since its launch in 2004. Our portfolio of projects has only grown with time and Reynaers is proud to have supplied the striking facades, functional doors and windows and efficient sliding systems that have been installed in various towers and buildings.”
The company’s most prestigious project undertaken in Qatar was the Aspire Tower back in 2007, says Khalaf as he explains Reynaers’ role in the development of the country’s modern infrastructure.
Some of its recent projects in Qatar include the exhibition centre as well as the car-park at the prestigious Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), Al Meerah Mall in Mubrrek, Al Jasrah Twin Towers, several branches of the Qatar National Bank, the Engineering College at the University of Qatar and Zikreet office building.
Reynaers’ latest landmark project, which is now under way in Qatar, is the Qatar Foundation headquarters. The company is currently busy with the design and supply of bespoke aluminium systems to meet the unique requirements of the building, says Khalaf.
Elaborating on the bespoke solution for the headquarters project, Abdulla Mayoof, technical manager, says: “Reynaers proposed a customised solution for the external façade and skylights due to the unique requirements of the projects where a large internal void had to be accommodated as part of the overall design. A new unitised façade system was designed covering the stone cladding while a customised solution was used for the fixations of the units between the concrete constructions. We had to create new profiles for the skylights using the stick system concept.”
“Reynaers’ role was not confined to the design and supply of profiles solely but we also supported the fabricator by providing them the production fabrication drawings and thermal calculations for the façade and skylights specifically for the mock-up and AWW (air, wind and water) tests.
Commenting on the market, Khalaf says Qatar is a purely project-based market for Reynaers and now with the Fifa World Cup developments, this segment is gaining further impetus. “This fact is evident by the fresh requirements of several stadiums and hotels in the country,” he says. “Reynaers is an ideal contender to furbish the aluminium works needed for these projects, given its expertise both locally and internationally in providing the design-and-supply requirements of some the most prestigious stadiums and hotels worldwide. These include the architecturally spectacular Liviv Stadium in Ukraine and the Cairo Stadium, Egypt, Ramada Hotel in Cannock, UK, Renaissance Hotel in Barcelona, Spain, the Grand Pacific Sovereign Resort & Spa in Cha-Am, Thailand and the under-construction Four Seasons hotel in Bahrain.”
