Bidders sought For mtc project

01 May 2015

ABU Dhabi Airports Company (Adac) has invited expressions of interest from companies for the soft landscaping design-and-build project at the new Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) under construction at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

According to Adac, the scope of work on the landscaping project includes designing, supervision, labour materials, plant and equipment in addition to delivery, installation and maintenance for the full execution of the contract.

The project involves irrigation, hard landscape, lighting and planting. The landscaping covers an area of 1.85 million sq m intersected by a number of elevated and recessed roads.

Located between the airport’s two runways, the new terminal is designed to minimise passenger walking distance and maximise aircraft parking space, said the company. The complex will have 39 new gates with a capability to expand up to 49. The terminal contains large column-free zones with a soaring roof supported by steel arches placed at long spaces, it added.

Quoting a senior official, a Wam report said the Dh10.8-billion ($2.94 billion) MTC project will be 60 to 65 per cent complete by the end of the year and is expected to fully operational by July 2017. It is being currently assessed whether to open the airport entirely or in phases from July.

Adac chairman Ali Majed Al Mansouri said last month that there have been “some changes” to the design but that construction remains on schedule.

Almost 40 per cent of the steel structure has been completed and all the glazing will be finished by the end of May or early June, said Al Mansouri.
