United Gulf Construction Company (UGCC) says it has completed all major development works on its estimated $450-million contract at Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City, a 6.4-million-sq-m waterfront residential project in Kuwait.
The massive development, which is estimated to cost $5 billion, is being developed by La’ala Al Kuwait Real Estate Company at Khiran, about 85 km south of Kuwait City.
Masterplanned by UK firm Buro Happold, the Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City project kicked off in 2002 and is eventually expected to accommodate around 100,000 people on completion of all phases.
Under the scope of works on its contract, UGCC has constructed buildings with a total built-up area of 610,138 sq m besides the complete infrastructure for the project including roads and power substations. It has undertaken the construction of some 930 housing units, six mosques and five schools and public buildings.
The work also saw UGCC, as the main contractor, undertake 10 million cu m of bulk earthworks and 400,000 cu m of concrete for the projects from its plants erected at the project site.
Elsewhere, UGCC’s subsidiary in Oman is working on a $200-million contract for the implementation of Package Three of a port project by the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (Sezad) of Oman.
The package involves construction of roads, commercial gate, check-in zone, truck registration building, one-stop terminal, customs area, among other facilities of the commercial wharf. UGCC will complete the project within the next three years.
The upcoming port at Duqm is a strategic multi-function facility and a key driver for the special economic zone. It has a distinctive geographical location close to the international shipping lines and the Asian and African markets.
