Roundabout revamp completed
Bahrain’S Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning has completed the revamp of Wali Al Ahad Roundabout.
The revamp includes a lane for U-turns underneath the flyover for traffic coming from the North along Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway heading towards Sheikh Zayed Avenue and on to A’Ali, Salmabad and Isa Town Educational District.
The capacity of the U-turn lane is 800 vehicles/hour and it is expected to alleviate congestion along the interchange of Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway and Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway, especially traffic heading towards Isa Town and Salmabad.
The revamp is expected to make it easier for commuters to reach areas like A’Ali, Salmabad, Isa Town and Riffa.
Oman to build two desal plants
Oman’s Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) has floated tenders for a pair of small water desalination plants (typically with a capacity of 1,000 to 10,000 cu m/day) to be implemented for the first time on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis.
These mini desalination plants are being planned at Mahout Wilayat (Wusta Governorate) and Musandam Governorate. Offers are due in by October 16 for either of these two projects, it stated.
PAEW currently owns 40 small desalination plants offering a total production capacity of around 45,000 cu m/day.
Park work to begin in Q1 2018
Bahrain’s Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning is likely to start work on the Muharraq Grand Park in the first quarter of next year.
The project has been included in the 2017-2018 fiscal year, and will be carried out in two phases following the court ruling which ordered the previous investor to vacate the site, the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) said.
The Muharraq Grand Park will cover more than 9 hectares near Bahrain International Airport.
