Viega makes joining easier

01 March 2018

Viega, a leading global manufacturer of piping systems, has launched its tried and trusted press connections with SC-Contur technology in the Middle East, enabling contractors in the region to benefit from its precision-engineered systems.

SC-Contur is a unique and effective design feature that ensures safe and reliable press connections are achieved quickly and consistently. The technology is incorporated within press fittings across the Viega range including connections from 12-mm to 108-mm pipes.

Rosario Conoscenti, area manager international at Viega, explains: “SC-Contur highlights the simplicity and reliability that applies to all Viega products. With its innovative and effective design, we are delighted to introduce press connections with SC-Contur to the Middle East and have the opportunity to offer our expertise and innovations to projects in this part of the globe.”

He says the press connections are up to 60 per cent faster to install compared to traditional pipe-joining methods, and they don’t need hot works, making them safer and cleaner.

The SC-Contur technology incorporates a flowpath channel within the fitting, proven to deliver a 100-per-cent positive leak if the fitting is inadvertently unpressed – clearly discernible during leakage testing or when the system is filled for the first time.

“Ensuring a reliable method of detecting these issues early in the process is critical, helping to avoid costly remedial work after the project is completed,” says Conoscenti.

He adds that with SC-Contur, water will visibly escape from unpressed connections during wet pressure testing. For dry testing with inert gas, a measurable drop in pressure will occur. SC-Contur also allows leakage testing to be carried out centrally using a manometer, provided the technology is installed throughout the system.

The technology is included on a wide range of Viega product lines including Profipress (copper), Sanpress Inox (stainless steel) and Megapress (steel). Connections that feature the technology are colour coded to allow quick and simple identification and verification on-site to ensure consistency across the installation.

Viega, a family-owned business, was founded in Attendorn, Germany, in 1899. Today it is amongst the leading manufacturers of installation technology for sanitary and heating systems, employing more than 4,000 people worldwide.

Conoscenti says installation technology as a core skill drives growth forward. “Pre-wall and drainage technology belong to the product range alongside piping systems. Viega’s range consists of approximately 17,000 articles, which are used nearly everywhere: in building services installations, in utilities or in industrial plant construction and shipbuilding,” he adds.
