Thabat, the construction arm of Saudi Arabia’s Al Muhaidib Group, has recently completed construction of the King Salman International Centre for Conferences – previously known as International Convention Centre (ICC) – in the city of Madinah.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) Silver-certified centre was designed by Dar Al Handasah. The main convention building, with a built-up area of nearly 70,000 sq m, has a large exclusive theatre with 2,500 air-conditioned seats, an exhibition hall, multipurpose hall, meeting rooms, King’s and VIP offices, and lounges for women. The building’s interior is embellished with elaborate and intricate decoration works.
The external buildings cover an area of 29,000 sq m and include a basement car-park, driver’s room, main gate room, public gate, VIP gate and services gate; whereas the external works, over an area of 42,000 sq m, included landscaping, road works, car parks, fencing and drainage works.
