Terex Trucks’ 28-tonne upgraded TA300 articulated hauler made its international tradeshow debut at bauma 2019, last month (April 8 to 14) in Munich, Germany, alongside the TA400.

Visitors were shown how the two articulated haulers deliver low total cost of ownership and high productivity on jobs including large-scale construction projects, infrastructure developments, quarries and mines.

“Terex Trucks has been investing in and making improvements to both the TA300 and TA400 articulated haulers,” says Paul Douglas, managing director of Terex Trucks. “Both of these machines are robust, reliable and productive. Our articulated haulers have never been better and Terex Trucks has never been stronger.”

The 28-tonne workhorse offers a heaped capacity of 17.5 cu m and is powered by a Scania DC9 engine, which develops gross power of 370 hp and a maximum torque of 1,880 Nm.

The upgraded TA300 incorporates the new EP320 transmission, which comes with two additional forward gears – eight in total – as well as four reverse gears. This helps to ensure smoother gear shifting and thereby superior operator comfort.

In addition to this, the TA300 delivers a five per cent improvement in fuel efficiency, as well as enhanced performance, productivity and operator comfort. It also comes with long-life transmission fluid, which has helped to increase the length of time between oil maintenance intervals from 1,000 to 4,000 hours.

The hauler’s maximum speed has also increased to 55 kmph (up from 50 kmph). Ultimately, this means customers can achieve faster cycle times, reduce the cost of operation per tonne and minimise their fuel consumption, according to Douglas.

Meanwhile, with a maximum payload of 38 tonnes, the TA400 is the biggest truck Terex manufactures. From the interior of the cab to the design of the chassis, this durable machine has been created to perform in some of the most challenging applications.

The TA400 boasts a heaped capacity of 23.0 cu m and is powered by a fuel-efficient Scania DC13 engine that develops gross power of 444 hp and a maximum torque of 2,255 Nm.

Terex Trucks’ skilled engineers have ensured that the TA400’s drivetrain is perfectly matched to the engine, thanks to automatic adaptive shifting capabilities and a pre-selected two-speed transfer box.

Other key performance features of the TA400 include great traction and an effective power-to-weight ratio, which ensures material is moved as quickly as possible in all conditions. With this functionality, customers can achieve maximum productivity at a minimal cost, says Douglas.

Reducing operational costs even further, as well as enhancing safety, are the force-cooled multi-disc brakes. Supported by an electronically activated exhaust brake and a six-stage modulating transmission retarder, the TA400 benefits from longer brake component lifecycles. The Allison HD4560 transmission boasts high-performance oil and up to 6,000 hours between service intervals.

For operator comfort, the TA400 comes with a spacious, ergonomically designed cab with pressurised properties, which ensures operators are comfortable when behind the wheel.

For safe, easy servicing, the TA400 has ground level test points, a fully tilting cab, an electronically raised hood and a full suite of on-dash diagnostic and machine health check readouts which help to maximize uptime.

Both the TA300 and TA400 carry a fuel-efficient engine, which is globally emissions compliant and meets the requirements of EU and North American legislation without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF). This is achieved via the latest generation selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, combined with exhaust gas regeneration (EGR) and a variable geometry turbo (VGT).
