Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has announced the launch of a 12-km-long vital 220-kV power line linking the Seef district and Salman Town.
This comes as part of the kingdom’s ambitious BD473-million ($1.24 billion) power infrastructure development plan which will see 15 220-kV substations and 48 66-kV substations being set up along with high-voltage cables across the country, said the EWA.
With the launch of this power line, the transmission of power between Bahrain and the Gulf countries has become easier and more reliable at the full 1,200 MW capacity, it stated.
After inaugurating the power line, EWA CEO Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa said it was the main feeder for the Salman Town. This, he stated, contributes to providing power to the northern province and also helps provide private developers’ projects with the required reliable source of energy.
Shaikh Nawaf said the 220-kV line was of vital importance in securing the requirements of the electrical connection between the power network in Bahrain and the GCC electrical grid especially in emergency situations.
ALS Korea manufactured and supplied electrical cables and installed them along with several Bahraini contracting companies, while the implementation of this package was supervised by the Irish International Electric Company.
