Qiddiya entertainment hub to enter construction phase

01 July 2019

Saudi Arabia’s multi-billion-dollar Qiddiya Entertainment City project will be entering the construction phase within the next few months, reported the Saudi Gazette, citing a top official.

“This year, we will complete our plans and finish the primary work on the site and during the coming months we will shift to the construction phase,” stated its CEO Michael Reininger.

Qiddiya is one of the three mega-projects, besides the Neom smart-city and the Red Sea Project, which was launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It will be located about 40 km from the city centre.

It is expected to be the world’s largest entertainment city by 2030, with a total area of 334 sq km, surpassing Walt Disney World in Florida, which is 110 sq km, he stated.

The project targets local, regional and international tourists and will be Saudi Arabia’s pre-eminent entertainment, sports and cultural destination that embodies the Saudi identity, he added.

Phase One of the project will officially open in 2022, while the final phase ends in 2035.

“We will witness a large increase in construction work on the site. We are racing against time for the opening of the project in four years from now,” noted Reininger.

Once completed, Qiddiya will be among the world’s topmost entertainment projects. It is expected to attract more than seven million Saudi tourists every year, he added.
