The Big 5

Healthy choice

Kuwait Insulating Material Manufacturing Company (Kimmco) has further improved the performance of its existing glasswool insulation for building applications with the development and launch of EcoBuild.

Manufactured using Saint-Gobain Isover’s patented state-of-the-art technology, EcoBuild contains 100 per cent natural resources, such as sand and soda, among others, and up to 80 per cent recycled post-consumer glass culets and, therefore, has a unique natural colour.

The Kuwait-based company is now set to showcase its new and popular lines of insulating products at The Big 5 show in Dubai next month (November).

“With the increasing demand worldwide for enhancing private and public buildings, the requests on better indoor air quality, comfort and safety inside buildings have been constantly rising,” says a company spokesman.

He says construction firms and architects are looking for experts who can offer them solutions to build more sustainable buildings that can score high ratings from Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS), Estidama, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) and others. The environmental and social features of these solutions together with approved technical performances must be guaranteed over time in a cost-efficient manner, he adds.

“EcoBuild meets the most stringent requirements, statutory or voluntary, in Europe on emissions of formaldehyde and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in indoor air, thereby improving the quality of the environment in which we live and work,” he points out. “EcoBuild has already been proven through its zero phenol-formaldehyde emission certificate.”

He says the product has been installed in many referencing projects where it has provided exceptional handling benefits including a superior, softer touch and no odour.

He continues: “EcoBuild’s sustainable insulation improves job-site efficiency, as it is less dust-producing and easier to work with, while providing excellent thermal, acoustic, fire and indoor air quality performance.”

Additionally, categorised as non-cancerous according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), EcoBuild is therefore the ideal solution for interior building insulation, the spokesman states.

“Green buildings are no longer an option but an obligation to secure the environment for generations to come, and hence Kimmco’s mission is to help educate building and design professionals about smart construction practices in order to improve energy efficiency and building performance.

“The commitment to achieve green building and sustainability goes well beyond certifications, standards and testing,” he adds.

EcoBuild insulation is able to save up to 12 times as much energy in its first year of application as the energy used to produce it – and then continues to conserve energy year after year till the end of the building’s life, he claims.

Kimmco will be at Stand 3C 131, Hall 3.
