Modon, an integrated master developer and subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Development Holding Company, has announced that work is progressing well at its Mangrove Walk, and is on track for completion by January next year.
The mega project, which will come up over a sprawling one million-sq-m area in Abu Dhabi, features an abundance of coastal mangroves trees.
Once ready, Mangrove Walk will boast a number of leisure and recreation facilities including a kayaking zone, a boardwalk, a play area for children and viewing terraces. There will also be a visitor’s centre, which aims to raise awareness about mangrove trees and their environmental significance, Modon said.
Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, toured the Mangrove Walk development and expressed delight at the unique design of the project, which reflects the nature and highlights the coastal features of the region. It provides residents and visitors a chance to explore the surrounding habitat which includes these natural mangroves.
Sheikh Khalid called upon Modon’s officials to complete the project on time by January 2020 and on par with the highest international standards.
“The Mangrove Walk is significant as it is one of the projects aimed at building natural reserves and preserving the environment, in line with the vision of Abu Dhabi Government to build vibrant and sustainable communities,” he noted.
Modon CEO Abdulla Al Sahi said: “Mangrove Walk is the first of its kind in the group’s destination package, which aims to enhance Abu Dhabi’s profile in ecotourism. We had conceptualised it to showcase and educate local and international visitors about Abu Dhabi’s natural heritage and environmental conservation efforts.”
The project enjoys close proximity to other popular destinations in Abu Dhabi including Yas Waterpark, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Saadiyat Island’s Cultural District, he added.
