DMC infrastructure works make progress

01 April 2020

Global marine terminal operator DP World says work is moving at a steady pace on the Dubai Maritime City (DMC) with more than 25 per cent of infrastructure work completed on the first phase of the project, which is set for completion by 2021.

The Dh140-million ($38.1 million) development of the commercial area will enhance DMC’s status as a leading maritime services provider, says DP World.

All modern services in the DMC are expected to be completed as planned, preparing the site to become a hub for maritime services. The contract for the DMC infrastructure Phase One works had been awarded last year with the target for completion set at Q1 2021.

The project aims at delivering all infrastructure to support a modern community, such as main and secondary road networks, public parking areas for 340 units, energy-efficient streetlighting, potable water and sewage networks, stormwater drainage, firefighting and irrigation networks, telecom connectivity, a pump station and maintenance of existing services, says the Dubai group.

The main contractor for DMC is fully mobilised, and all required condition assessments of existing underground services have been completed in Q4 2019.

Detailed design for all services has been successfully completed and construction works have already commenced, it adds.

DP World says deep infrastructure works along Sheikh Rashid Road (adjacent to sub-developer plots along the sea side) have been initiated and already 40 per cent progress has been achieved to date.

Once Phase One infrastructure works get completed, DMC will get integrated with the Mina Rashid area that includes the QE2 Hotel, Marina Fitness 72 and other commercial and residential facilities. The site is connected by a causeway to Dubai’s major road network.

DP World – UAE Region CEO and Managing Director Mohammed Al Muallem says: “This project is expected to provide DMC with an efficient and sustainable infrastructure to support a modern community. Works are on target and will enable the vision of our sub-developers in a timely manner.”

The commercial precinct is a mixed-use area planned to consist of retail, residential, office towers and a promenade.
