CAT commands ‘largest market share’

01 May 2020

Caterpillar trucks enjoyed the largest share of the market last year across the entire territory that Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar covers in the GCC, claims a senior official of the UAE-based dealer of CAT machinery, heavy equipment and power systems in the emirates as well as Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar.

“Our aim is to continue enjoying the majority of the market share and provide all our partners with these super trucks,” Samer Ismail, Regional Product Manager at Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar, tells Gulf Construction.

He adds that the trucks industry has witnessed a 25 per cent year-on-year growth over the past four years.

According to Ismail, Caterpillar’s most popular truck is the 770G.

“This model has the best-in-class fuel efficiency, and outstanding operator comfort that boosts the truck’s productivity to the maximum.  These trucks are mainly used in quarrying and material loading applications, especially the 40-tonne-class models which are preferred to meet the required production targets of most of the customers in this region,” he explains.

Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar is now gearing up to release the G2 Series, which promises impressive enhancements in ergonomics, visibility, and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems while offering more storage and interior space.

“This again highlights the importance Caterpillar accords to the operator environment as a focal point in a bid to enhance productivity of trucks,” Ismail says.

To ensure the equipment it supplies to the region meets customer satisfaction, Caterpillar adapts its machines to suit the requirements of the Middle East. These features are tested and validated in the region to ensure the machines work perfectly in the humidity and high ambient temperatures that are experienced in the region.

In terms of engines and hydraulics cooling capabilities for instance, all Cat machines are equipped with high ambient cooling systems, says Ismail.

“Moreover, CAT LRC (lesser regulated countries) engines are designed to work efficiently with high-sulphur fuel that is being used in the region,” he adds.

Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar, which was founded in 1937,  supplies equipment that is used for a wide variety of applications, including earthmoving, building and construction, mining, road construction, demolition, waste and scrap handling, electric power generation and marine propulsion.

Over the past year, most of orders secured by the company were to serve two mega projects, namely the construction of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (Adnoc) Ghasha artificial islands to produce gas, and the Khatmat Milaha gabbro quarry project in Oman, which will serve the requirements for aggregates in projects across the region.

Al-Bahar backs up its products with efficient after-sales so that productivity of machines is maximised.

Commenting on Al-Bahar’s support, he says: “Uptime is directly linked to success, and at Al-Bahar we have a specialist after-sales department who are experts in their own field and provide assistance around the clock. Moreover, the next generation of PartStore is the fastest, easiest, and most reliable place to find over 1.4 million genuine CAT Parts online.
