Saudi-based Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) has started work on the Ad Diriyah Art Oasis, the world’s first centre for digital arts located next to Al Bujairi Heritage District in Al Diriyah near Riyadh. It is due for completion by 2022.
The joint partnership between the DGDA and the Saudi Ministry of Culture will deliver a revolutionary hub dedicated to supporting innovation in the fields of digital art, artificial intelligence and modern technologies said the Saudi developer.
Spread over 10,000 sq m area, it will be the first global platform celebrating arts and innovation in the fields of digital art and artificial intelligence. The centre would house six art studios, a library, an art store, workspace for artists, and halls for workshops and training classes to form an integrated creative platform to promote digital arts.
Al-Diriyah Art Oasis, which is designed by the renowned Italian engineer Amedeo Citarella, will be the world’s first specialised centre for digital arts to explore four major educational tracks such as arts programs, artificial intelligence, creative computing, and machine learning. Also, it will cover digital arts, photography, production of movies and sound arts in addition to graphic design, 3D modelling, animation, and animated graphics.
The oasis will also host public events such as an annual international exhibition for arts and artificial intelligence and a series of hackathons focused on the application of the digital arts, said senior company officials.
Ad Diriyah Art Oasis will cement Ad Diriyah District’s reputation as a hotspot for contemporary culture, through which the thriving art scene in the kingdom can be explored, whilst encouraging further investment in science and technology in the area, stated the officials.
The partnership with DGDA forms part of the Ministry of Culture’s ongoing commitment to develop the cultural ecosystem in Saudi Arabia and provide new platforms for cultural expression, a core part of the country’s cultural transformation under Vision 2030, they added.
